About Bean
PLEASE NOTE THAT UNFORTUNATELY WE ARE UNABLE TO FLY OUR ANIMALS EITHER WITHIN WA OR INTERSTATE
NAME: Bean
BEFORE RESCUE: Came to SAFE Esperance from the pound
BREED: Jack Russell x
BREED TRAITS: Jack Russells are lively, independent and clever. They are trainable but have a mind of their own and if bored can dig and chew. Terriers are devoted to their people, affectionate and love being with them so cannot be left for long periods. Jack Russells can be reactive especially to larger dogs unless well socialised. Careful and sensitive socialisation from a young age is a must.
**************************************************************************
ASSETS: Friendly, outgoing, obedient, confident, active and playful! He can get a little nippy in his excitement to play but he wants to please so is quick to stop when corrected.
FAVOURITE THINGS: Bean loves to play with other dogs and enjoys tug of war, chewing his toys, walking in the paddock of his foster home and just being with and getting attention and cuddles from his people.
ENDEARING FEATURES: Bean is a very happy, smart boy who is very eager to please. He would be the perfect dog for a family who want a playful companion.
OTHER ANIMALS: Bean loves the company of other friendly dogs and loves to play. He has been introduced to a cat in his foster home and gets very excited around them and wants to play, so could possibly live with a dog-savvy cat after very gentle, supervised introductions.
GENERAL INFO: Bean pulls on his lead in his enthusiasm to see and be involved in everything, so will need some training. He is still housetraining and will do well once he’s in a routine but expect some accidents while he’s getting the hang of things! As he’s a smart boy he will need some good toys and mental activities to engage him and keep his mind busy. He can be a bit protective over his treats so will need to be fed away from any other dogs in his new household. He has a medium energy level, travels well in the car and knows a few commands but we will expect his new owner to take him to classes where he can learn new things in a safe environment. As he is a young pup Bean will need human company for most of the day and certainly for the first 6 months after adoption.
We don’t know Bean’s parentage and think that he will probably be larger than a Jack Russell (possibly small to medium) but we can’t predict his eventual size.
ESSENTIALS for Bean:
** A loving home with someone who can be with him for most of the day or can take him with them when they go out.
** He will need daily exercise, playtime and mental activity. A home that is willing to involve him in daily activities is essential for him.
** Bean needs a fenced, secure yard with grass and interesting things to sniff and explore.
** Bean needs to be allowed inside the home and to sleep inside at night.
** Bean needs to attend puppy school and if possible classes into adulthood – Bean has missed out on early foundation work so needs good structure and training to make up for this.
Bean could live with dog-savvy, gentle children over 8 years old who will be able to read his signals and engage with him on a daily basis. He would also love the company of another dog in his new home, or at least have regular interaction with other friendly dogs.
If Bean sounds like the perfect fit for your family, please send an enquiry and we’ll be in touch soon.
