About Sammy
PLEASE NOTE THAT UNFORTUNATELY WE ARE UNABLE TO FLY OUR ANIMALS EITHER WITHIN WA OR INTERSTATE
NAME: Sammy
BEFORE RESCUE: Came to SAFE Esperance from the pound
BREED: American Staffordshire Terrier X
BREED TRAITS: American Staffordshire Terriers are quite high energy, playful, affectionate and intelligent but do require training as they can be headstrong. They are very social with adults and children and are extremely loyal but can suffer from separation anxiety if left for long periods. Their sociability with dogs is a facet that needs work from an early age.
**************************************************************************
ASSETS: Easy-going, affectionate, devoted, talkative, friendly, outgoing, playful and very sweet and loving. He has a gorgeous personality but does jump up when he meets people initially (it's a work in progress) so won’t be suited to a home with young children or frail adults.
FAVOURITE THINGS: Sammy loves to get out and about at the dog park and the beach. He is a big chewer and loves sticks and shredding cardboard. He also loves to play with his ball and will cuddle up on the couch for a cuddle afterwards.
ENDEARING FEATURES: Sammy is a very loyal and loving boy and is a joy to have around. He ‘talks’ to you and is very expressive.
OTHER ANIMALS: Sammy loves the company of other friendly dogs and loves to play with them. He hasn’t been tested with cats so we would prefer a dog-only home for him.
GENERAL INFO: Sammy pulls on his lead in his enthusiasm to see and be involved in everything. He is housetrained and rarely barks. As he’s a typical Staffy breed that needs to chew he will need some robust toys and some mental activities to keep his mind busy. He has a fairly high energy level so requires good daily exercise, travels well in the car and knows a few commands. Sammy has spent some of his time with a carer who was home a lot which really suited him so we would recommend a home where someone is home more often than not or can take him to work or out and about.
ESSENTIALS for Sammy:
** A loving home with someone who can be with him for part of the day or can take him with them when they go out.
** He will need good daily exercise, playtime and mental activity. A home that is willing to involve him in daily activities is essential for him.
** Sammy needs to continue his training; boundaries and structure are very important for Sammy to channel his brain and energy.
** Sammy needs a fenced, secure yard with grass and interesting things to sniff and explore.
**Sammy needs to be allowed inside the home when you are there and to sleep inside at night.
Sammy could live with dog-savvy, gentle children over 8 years old who will be able to read his signals and engage with him on a daily basis. He would also love the company of another dog in his new home, or at least have regular interaction with other friendly dogs.
If Sammy sounds like the perfect fit for your family, please send an enquiry and we’ll be in touch soon.
