About Ned Astair
Ned Astair found himself in a trap set for an escaped cat that obvious didn't want to be caught! He was tiny, we thought hewas only four months old and so scared he couldn't move from the ground. Ned spent the first three weeks in care hiding in the foster carers wardrobe, then he graduated to lurking under the bed, only hopping up at night when it was safe. Now Ned is cautiously optimistic about the human species adn life, he still slinks around and isn't touchable unless he's on the bed and feels safe... but he's a whole different kitten!
When Ned went for his vet work, it turned out that he was 9 months old, not four months old. He'd just spent so long without food his growth was stunted. Ned will probably never be a big cat, but he's filled out nicely and his fur is now plush and soft. With his stunning tuxedo looks and big golden eyes, he's quite the looker.
Ned's also learning that pats and strokes are just lovely and when he starts purring, he's moved us to tears with his happiness.
This is one little guy who deserves all the love in the world, and obviously didn't get it from his first humans. So we're going to make sure whoever adopts him loves him and continues to build his confident... because he's got so much love to give the right person. Our vet staff adore him and think he's the sweetest boy ever!
Ned likes:
food - twice a day, and please back away because he's still nervous eating in front of people.
gentle strokes and pats - but only while on the bed.
nose touches - he likes being asked for interaction, not having it forced on him.
watching the world through the window - oh how he loves watching the world go by now that he's safe from being out there struggling and starving on the streets.
other cats - Ned has learnt from the other foster cats that humans are not only useful as a food source, but they're actually ok for love and playtime and snuggling on the bed.
Ned does not like:
forced interaction - being picked up still terrifies him, but he doesn't struggle hard, he's just scared stiff.
loud noises - vacuum cleaners, strangers, yelling. He's off and under something where he'll feel safe.
cranky cats - Ned removes himself from conflict very quickly. He tends to hang out with the other foster kittens rather than the adult cats.
Ned would be ideally suited as an apartment or unit cat where he is safely indoors at all times. He could slink out of open door very easily when people aren't paying attention. Ned would be ideal to be adopted with one of his more confident kitten friends like Teapot or Mario (see CPoM listings https://www.petrescue.com.au/groups/11337/Cat-People-of-Melbourne)
Ned needs to feel safe and loved, like so many of us. He is still in his bud stage but is slowly opening up and will blossom over a period of 2/3 years... are you ready to take that journey with this sweet and wonderful boy?
