About Honey
Introducing Honey!
Honey is a Staffy x Kelpie born approx 29th December 2023.
Honey was brought in to us as an unmicrochipped stray by her owners who dumped two of their dogs at different facilities on the same day. Both dogs were subsequently surrendered to the facility for rehoming. Honey's previous name was simply "Dog" which we decided to change as we felt it wasn't fitting for her beautiful nature. Honey's surrender profile states she was an outdoor dog so she isn't house trained as yet, she has no separation anxiety or food aggression, she travels well in the car, she hasn't dug under or jumped over fences, she loves having another animal for companionship, she is friendly with children & adult strangers, she is friendly with dogs but she hasn't been socialised with cats.
When Honey was brought into the facility she was a very friendly but very timid girl. It took a lot of encouragement to get her to walk on lead, but she showed nothing but love the entire time. After spending just a few minutes with her, she was looking to us for guidance and gentle reassurance. We could see she wanted love but was too scared to ask for it. Since being with us, Honey's confidence has grown & she's turned into a beautiful, sweet & affectionate girl. While she is still cautious with new situations (and the speed/noise from passing cars on walks), she settles fairly quickly with positive reassurance.
Honey seems to enjoy exploring & has shown herself to be a quick learner. Given her breeds she will need to be mentally & physically stimulated with continued training & socialising. She is highly food motivated and eager to learn. She will also need an owner who is willing to give her the cuddles & attention she desperately craves.
Honey tested fairly well with other dogs at the facility. She was incredibly playful, wiggly & bouncy with smaller male dogs. We know she was previously housed with a male Jack Russell, however we don't think she has been socialised with any larger dogs. She was tested with a larger female who immediately showed aggression towards Honey, and she reacted in retaliation, however when testing with a larger male she seemed unsure how to interact with him. We feel Honey could be suitable to live with other dogs, or be a spoilt "only child". If you have a friendly dog at home we will need to do a meet & greet with them to ensure they get along before going home.
Honey has shown no interest in cats or pocket pets while at the facility.
*Please note that our cat & pocket pet testing is done through an enclosure. We cannot guarantee how she would react to free roaming animals.
Honey has shown no signs of food aggression or separation anxiety while being at the facility.
Honey would thrive in a home where she is included as a part of the family, where she can continue to learn how to be a happy-go-lucky puppy with positive re-enforcement.
Honey's adoption fee is $600 and includes her desexing and lifetime registration.
Honey has been treated for flea and worms and is up to date with her vaccinations.

Adoption details
If you are interested in adopting one of our animals, please contact us on 0499 900 272.
Staff will ask more about your lifestyle and the information you provide will helps us to achieve the best match between the dog or cat and their new home. We will also have certain adoption requirements that have to be approved prior to meeting the animal (eg fencing requirements, no young kids, etc)
Once all of your questions have been answered and adoption requirements met and approved, its time to meet your potential new furbaby. This meet will be conducted at the shelter in the Hunter Valley.
Should you have an existing dog in your life, we will require a meet and greet to ensure that they get along.
The final step (pending agreement by both parties) is the payment of the adoption fee and filling in of associated paperwork for your new furbaby.
