Kieran's story is unfortunately all too common here at the shelter. Surrendered into our care by breeders who were unable to sell him and his littermates, Kieran has now been left abandoned and without a home.

The shelter environment is no place for a puppy to grow up in, however, we are hoping you can give Kieran the second chance he deserves.

As a 6-month-old working breed puppy, Kieran is going to need a special type of family who is committed to providing the compassion and care that he deserves.

At the moment, Kieran lacks the foundation skills that all dogs need. Kieran not only needs help with learning basic skills such as sitting and fetching, but he also needs to learn more complex social skills with humans and other dogs. Whilst being in our care, Kieran has shown fear around entering new environments and meeting new people.

Clearly shut-down here at the shelter, Kieran spent some time away in foster and showed the ability to quickly warm up to his canine and human companions in the home environment. With patience and treats he was able to quickly feel comfortable and confident in his foster home. Now back at the shelter, Kieran is desperately seeking his forever home.

As a four-legged baby himself, Kieran is often overwhelmed by loud noises and sudden movements, and needs to be the baby of the household. Kieran would suit an adults-only house who live an active lifestyle.

Whilst in our care Kieran initially showed anxiety and conflict around other dogs, however, whilst in foster Kieran loved having a canine companion around and would greatly benefit from having another dog in the home to learn and build confidence from.

Like all working breed dogs, Kieran not only requires extensive physical enrichment (think long walks, playing fetch...) but also needs to keep his mind busy. Kieran has shown signs of distress when left alone and would benefit from having human company more often than not. However, it is important Kieran learns being left alone isn't scary and can be a positive experience. Enrichment toys such as snuffle mats, kongs and treat puzzles are great ways to keep his mind busy. Additionally, Kelpies are fast learners and benefit greatly from reward-based training to help build their skills.
