About Duke
Meet Duke, a 2-year and 5-month-old German Shepherd with a high-energy personality and a keen intelligence likely stemming from working line lineage. Duke thrives on engaging actively with his handler, and with the right training, he has enormous potential to excel.
Duke is currently reactive to other dogs while on a leash, a behavior that likely stems from frustration and under-socialization. However, he shows a different, more positive behavior when meeting dogs up close. At the shelter, Duke has participated in off-leash play sessions with tester dogs, demonstrating his ability to interact well when properly introduced.
Duke requires an adopter who has experience with German Shepherds, possesses good handling skills, and is confident managing a large, strong dog. He's exceptionally friendly with people and is eager to become a loyal companion, always ready to join his human on any adventure.
While Duke could potentially live with a tolerant dog that can help him learn social cues more effectively, any such arrangement would need to be carefully managed with a successful meet-and-greet. Ongoing training is highly recommended to help manage his leash reactivity and to continue his social and behavioral development.
Duke is a fantastic dog in need of a consistent, knowledgeable owner who can provide him with the structure and guidance he needs. If you're looking for a loyal and intelligent companion with lots of love to give, Duke could be the perfect addition to your family. Come meet him and see the potential for yourself!
