Meet Morris,
About: Morris is an independent and engaging little guy. He is suitable for first time owners or those with experience. Morris is friendly, excitable and happy and is suitable for any household environment.
Morris would make a great adventure buddy for active people as he is outgoing and social.
Ideal Home: Morris would be fine to live in any property type/dwelling and yard size is of no concern either. Just as long as the fencing is high & secure to keep him safely contained.
Whilst Morris will happily play outside, he would also like access to inside the home as well so that he can live that lux life & get the best of both worlds.
Family: Morris is open to meet kids of any age, but we should advise that although he is affectionate and would make a great friend for kids, he is also boisterous. So, kids should be dog savvy as he does jump and whilst his size might not lead to anyone being knocked over it is still a behaviour that may see some bumped heads.
Morris would do well living with people who work part-time, someone who can commit time to his training.
Furry Friends: Morris is open to meet other dogs. During his dog assessment he was a little unsure at first but really wanted to make friends. He needs some confidence training & gradual introduction to other dogs. Morris prefers respectful dogs that are more his level of engagement rather than super keen, confident dogs as they make him feel a little overwhelmed. Ongoing socialisation with other dogs would be required to boost his confidence.
As we cannot test, we are unsure how Morris would go living with or meeting cats/pocket pets. This would be up to the discretion of his new owners.
Training & Development: Morris would benefit from post-adoption training, such as training at home to cover basic obedience and commands and group classes to assist Morris with his dog social skills, environmental socialisation, and a focus on not jumping would be ideal.
With additional training Morris could be the type of dog that you could take to a dog friendly café or social event.
Morris is still learning his name, but he does know how to ‘sit’. He is food motivated, so treats would be a great tool to have on hand during training sessions as he responds well to them.
As mentioned before Morris does jump – he is a very bouncy boy so commitment to counteracting this behaviour would be required.
We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.
Play: Morris’s energy levels are mid-range, and he would benefit from play time, exercise or walking from 20-60mins a day. Morris also loves to play with squeaky toys!
Morris walks ‘ok’ on a lead… He’s very bouncy and tends to spin on occasion – leash training should be incorporated into his training regime. He is best walked on a harness for control.
Staff Comments: Morris is a happy guy who loves people & making friends. He’s a little unsure on some cases but respectful in his behaviour and attitude towards new things & environments. He will need training regarding leash/walking and jumping.

With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as flawless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories. Most left in the shelter by their owners. The information we receive is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks will surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
So please keep in touch with us after adoption so that we can help you settle your new family member in and address any unexpected behaviours.
