Meet Pingu,
About: Pingu is suitable for first time or experienced owners. Pingu is a sweet, sensitive soul with a big heart. She is friendly, happy & engaging. Pingu may at times be boisterous but it’s usually in short stints and usually when she first meets you. She’s just super excited to make friends!
She is suitable for any household environment, and a great choice for active people as she would love to accompany you on any and all adventures.
Ideal Home: Pingu is small to medium in size, so she is suitable to live in a townhouse/duplex, house or on a farm/acreage, she’d be happy with a medium to large size yard with high, secure fencing to keep her safely contained when outside.
As Pingu loves her human friends it would be important for her to have access inside the home if possible so that she can feel like part of a family.
Family: Pingu is open to meet kids of any age providing that the kids in the home are dog savvy. Pingu is playful & affectionate and would make a great friend for the kids, but she may also jump around if she gets excited, so smaller kids may get accidentally knocked over.
Pingu is also fine to live with people who work part-time.
Furry Friends: Pingu is open to meet dogs, but she needs a little more exposure around other dogs. During her dog assessment she was a little uncertain at the start but as the assessment progress she relaxed and was happy to interact, however did at times get a little uncomfortable when the other dog made big movements. So, we are going to work with her on her exposure & socialisation to help her along. She appears to be better suited to calmer dogs rather than energetic dogs.
As we cannot test, we are unsure how Pingu would go living with or meeting cats/pocket pets. This would be up to the discretion of her new owners.
Training & Development: Pingu would benefit from post-adoption training, such as training at home to cover basic commands and obedience as well as group classes to assist her with exposure to other dogs, dog social skills & confidence building.
With additional training, Pingu could be the type of dog that you could take to a dog friendly café and/or social setting.
Pingu is still learning her name but knows how to ‘sit’ although she may be reluctant to do it at first. She loves her treats, so they would be good to have on hand during training sessions as she responds well to them.
We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.
Play: Pingu has medium range energy levels and would benefit from exercise, walks, or play time from 20-30mins a day to her happy & healthy. Pingu loves to play with plush/soft toys.
Pingu walks ok on a lead but may pull sometimes, so she is best walked with a martingale or harness.
Staff Comments: Pingu is suitable for most homes/environments including first time dog owners. She is very sweet! She is a genuine sweetheart. She’s a little nervous & sensitive but you can see that she tires her best to see the best in every situation. She’s a big softy and would make a great cuddle partner.

With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as flawless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories. Most left in the shelter by their owners. The information we receive is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks will surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
So please keep in touch with us after adoption so that we can help you settle your new family member in and address any unexpected behaviours.
The adoption fee for dogs covers C3 vaccination, health check, heartworm testing, desexing, micro-chipping, and registration.
The adoption fee for cats covers F3 vaccination, health check, desexing, micro-chipping, and registration.
