Meet Hattie,
About: Hattie would make a great dog for first time owners or those with experience. She is a friendly & happy girl who loves to interact & make friends with any person she meets. She will greet you with a wiggly bottom & wagging tail. Hattie is smart as she knows a few neat tricks & is quickly learning more.
Hattie is suitable for any household environment and would make a great fit for active families/individuals because she is excitable and playful. She would love to go on adventures with her new family.
Ideal Home: Hattie is on the smaller size, so she is suitable to live in a townhouse/duplex, house or on a farm/acreage, she’d be happy with a medium to large size yard with high, secure fencing to keep her safely contained when outside.
Access to inside the home would be a big positive for Hattie as she is an affectionate girl she loves to be around people.
Family: Hattie is open to meet kids of any age, providing that the kids are dog savvy & have been around dogs before. The reason for this is that although Hattie is affectionate & would make a great friend for kids, she is a bit of a jumper, and small kids may get accidentally knocked over.
Hattie is also fine to live with people who work part-time.
Furry Friends: Hattie is best to be the only dog in the home (for now). We can see that she has loads of potential, but she needs to work on her confidence & socialisation first – two things that we will be working with her on. During her dog assessment Hattie was very stressed. She desperately wanted to make friends but became frustrated because she didn’t know how to. This is due to lack of socialisation in her previous home.
As we cannot test, we are unsure how Hattie would go living with or meeting cats/pocket pets. This would be up to the discretion of her new owners.
Training & Development: Hattie would benefit from post-adoption training, such as training at home to cover basic commands & obedience and group classes to assist with her dog social skills and exposure to other dogs as well as confidence building. Hattie can be a little vocal in her kennel, which is due to her wanting to interact with you when she sees you. She is very quiet outside of her kennel.
Hattie doesn’t yet know her name, but she is learning it. Hattie know show to ‘sit’ & is able to be lured into ‘down’. She is also learning ‘shake’. Hattie is food motivated & responds well to treats – treats will be your best friend during training sessions.
We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.
Play: Hattie has high energy levels mostly due to her age. She would benefit from exercise, play time, or walks from 20-60mins to keep her happy, healthy & stimulated. Hattie loves to play with chew toys, rope toys or stuffed/plush toys.
Hattie walks well on a lead but can pull sometimes. She is best walked on a martingale or harness.
Staff Comments: Hattie is a young, energetic puppy. She is suitable for most homes/lifestyles and is ok for first time dog owners. Hattie is a little under socialised but is respectful n her behaviour. She’s happy to interact & meet people but needs more social interaction with other dogs. A supportive & committed owner will do wonders for her.

With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as flawless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories. Most left in the shelter by their owners. The information we receive is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks will surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
So please keep in touch with us after adoption so that we can help you settle your new family member in and address any unexpected behaviours.
