About Obie
PLEASE NOTE THAT UNFORTUNATELY WE ARE UNABLE TO FLY OUR ANIMALS EITHER WITHIN WA OR INTERSTATE
NAME: Obie
BEFORE RESCUE: Came to SAFE Esperance from the pound
BREED: Staffordshire Bull Terrier x American Staffordshire Terrier
BREED TRAITS: Staffordshire Bull Terriers look tough but they are mostly affectionate and loving dogs with family - known as Nanny dogs they are great with children if brought up with them correctly. They love to be with their people and do not cope with being alone, and so they are not outside dogs. They are energetic and need a really good work out every day. Positive socialisation with other dogs is essential – they are not for novice owners.
American Staffordshire Terriers are quite high energy, playful, affectionate and intelligent but do require training as they can be headstrong. They are very social with adults and children and are extremely loyal but can suffer from separation anxiety if left for long periods. Their sociability with dogs is a facet that needs work from an early age
*********************************************************************
ASSETS: Easy-going, affectionate, devoted, eager to please, friendly, playful and very sweet and loving. He literally loves everyone he meets!
FAVOURITE THINGS: Obie loves to get out and about for walks, enjoys car rides and plays tug of war with his toys and the other dogs in his foster home. He loves to spend time with his people and enjoys cuddle time on the couch.
ENDEARING FEATURES: Obie is a very loyal and loving boy with a ton of character and is a joy to have around.
OTHER ANIMALS: Obie loves the company of other friendly dogs and loves to play with them. He could also live with a dog-savvy cat after gentle introduction as he has lived with a cat in the past.
GENERAL INFO: Obie generally walks well on his lead but will tug when he sees something that he wants to be closer to – a little training will help with this. He is housetrained and rarely barks and is well behaved in the house. He has a medium energy level but loves to be on the go, travels well in the car and knows a few commands, including doing a high five. Obie just wants to be with his person and would love to be your best mate. Obie can have some anxiety if left for too long - his carer is generally out working for 4 hour time slots and he will become anxious if left in the garden, even with other dogs. He loves to be with his person and/or in the home. He will not cope well with full time workers unless you can break up his day and possibly give him access to the home.
ESSENTIALS for Obie:
** A loving home with someone who can be with him for part of the day or can take him with them when they go out.
** He will need daily exercise, playtime and mental activity. A home that is willing to involve him in daily activities is essential for him.
** Obie needs a fenced, secure yard with grass and interesting things to sniff and explore
.
**Obie needs to be allowed inside the home when you are home - preferably have access to a doggy door - and to sleep inside at night.
Obie could live with dog-savvy, gentle children over 8 years of age who will be able to read his signals and engage with him on a daily basis. He would also love the company of another dog in his new home, or at least have regular interaction with other friendly dogs.
If Obie sounds like the perfect fit for your family, please send an enquiry and we’ll be in touch soon.
