Pirate 🏴Shih Tzu, 9yo (Adopted 5/8/24)

Pirate is a 9yo, Maltese x Shih Tzu who lives for walks! 🐶 He walks briskly on lead without making a lot of stops so he is an ideal walking companion. He isn’t worried by anything on walks such as traffic or other dogs. He just likes to trot along and enjoy himself.

LIKES:
• Going for walks!
• A game of tug with a soft toy.
• Food and treats.
• Being inside and sleeping inside.
• A comfy dog bed with a view to the outside.
• A relaxed, quiet home without children.
• Greeting you happily when you come home.
• Back scratches.
• Jumping into the car.

DISLIKES:
• Being approached or touched when he’s sleeping.
• Sitting on a lap.
• Being touched on his face.
• A busy or noisy home.

MORE ABOUT PIRATE:
• He will sit and shake hands when asked.
• He is an inside dog.
• He is housetrained and takes himself out the open back door as needed.
• He sleeps all through the night in his own bed in the lounge room.
• He barks at some outside noises but isn't a nuisance barker.
• He isn't suitable to be let off lead in unfenced areas.
• He loves his food and isn’t picky.
• He’s very smart and he would respond very well to one-on-one training.
• He is fine at home alone while you go to work.

📢 Pirate is a special needs dog so he needs someone experienced with nervous dogs. Sometimes he can be sweet and affectionate but if you surprise him by unexpectedly reaching towards his head he could bite. Because he’s sensitive to touch it’s best to only touch him when he is asking you to, such as when he greets you upon coming home or when he’s asking for a walk. He doesn’t want to be touched around his face. He loves back scratches and being brushed though.

We are trying to find a special person out there who wants to help a special dog. He was found as a stray and taken to a pound and no one came to claim him so he’s been through a lot.

Pirate has non-shedding coat which won’t leave dog hair around your house or on your clothes. He needs professional clipping every 6 to 8 weeks. He is small but chunky and weighs 7.5kgs.

• Someone experienced with nervous dogs.
• who accepts that he is independent and doesn’t want a lot of touching.
• who wants an adorable and easy walking companion.
• No residents under 16.
• No cats.
• Other dogs ok.
• Full time workers ok.

⭐Pirate is in foster care in Cessnock, NSW (west of Newcastle). He is only available for adoption within NSW and ACT. His adoption fee is $400 and he is desexed, vaccinated, treated for fleas, worms, microchipped and registered.
