About Pete
đ Pete đ
HOUSEHOLD- This gorgeous man is Pete. A thoughtful dog who comes across as very stand offish but once he gets to know you he is gentle, affectionate and even playful when the mood strikes. He is not 100% comfortable here in the facility and may come out of his shell more once you get him home but what we have seen here makes us think he will be lovely. He will be best suited to a more mature household where he can be involved in family activities both inside and out and would best suit children 13yrs and above due to his more quiet nature.
ON-GOING TRAINING- Pete is ready and willing to learn. He engages well and enjoys a variety of food treats following verbal commands he know well. He looks for handler interaction and will benefit from on-going training into the future.
ON LEAD- Pete has lovely leash manners 90% of the time. He can be strong and pull when he really wants a certain smell but generally speaking will check in with his handler and follow your along side without any issues.
PLAY/TOYS- In the kennel environment he is more focused on getting out and about to explore rather than playing. He will have a sniff, a slight chase and then move onto other business. Potentially once he is settled in his new home a true play style will be revealed.
OTHER DOGS- Pete has shown himself to be consistently respectful of any canine companions he has met. He is not always playful and will happily walk away from a dog he does not wish to interact with anymore. For a special few, he has become more animated and tried to play with them. He appears to be social enough to live with another canine companion but will require a meet and greet here at the facility to be sure they get along well. He may better suit an only dog home though where he can rule the roost!
While he has shown himself to be dog social at the facility we cannot test for group dog settings such as a visit to the dog parks or beaches so, if you were hoping to visit these places in the future we cannot guarantee how he would cope and do recommend postponing your trip till around 3mths post adoption until he has had time to settle in and create a bond with his new family being 100% sure he is comfortable with his recall commands.
CATS/OTHER ANIMALS- Pete has shown us minimal behaviours of concerns to make us think he would be unsuitable to live with feline friends. We will continue to monitor here at the facility.
CARE/GROOMING- His short coat length will require minimal maintenance with a quick weekly brush and monthly bathing and nail trims to keep him looking good. He will require a warm coat during the colder months and while he allows all handling well he does not always enjoy excess handling and would benefit on a patient owner who is willing to work on this.
EXERCISE- Pete loves a leisurely long walk on a long or short leash. He will require 1-2 walks daily along with daily interaction/games at home once he lets us know what he really enjoys doing. He does like to follow his nose and may appreciate afew scent games.
NUTRITION- Pete will require three daily feeds while he gains some extra weight. He is currently having a higher protein and fat diet in the facility to assist with this and will just need to be monitored when to decrease this as his optimal weight comes into view.
BREED- Handsome Staffy Mix - DOB 1/4/20
Pete is an adorable boy and his ears make him quite unique. The more comfortable Pete is, the closer his ears come together â¤ď¸ If you would love to add Pete to your family, please lodge your interest online.
