Paws

My name is Paws and I’m a 7-year-old border collie cross kelpie. Don’t let my age fool you – I’m as playful and adventurous as they get and I don’t look a day over 5 (just ignore those pesky grey hairs!).

I love people and have a calm, gentle nature. I’ve lived on a big farm my entire life with lots of other dogs and I get along well with other social pooches. I’ve recently been introduced to toys and I think they’re pretty neat! I love chasing my new toy but I’m not keen on the “bring it back” part (he he – that’s just my sense of humour! It makes me chuckle when the humans have to race from one end of the lawn to the other, just to pick up my toy!).

I’m learning to walk on the lead, but I haven’t had much exposure to this in the past: I’ve always just followed my humans around the yard. Either way, I’m enjoying the training, I love to learn and I love to please (PS – I’m food oriented, so the humans keep saying I’m a breeze to train!).

I’m a working dog breed so I have a strong herd drive….but I’ve never actually been trained to herd: I’ve always been treated as a pet and family member. It’s definitely best to keep me away from cattle and horses (unless fenced) because, gee whiz, those guys are really interesting and fun to chase!!!

I haven’t encountered kids before, but my sweet temperament would make me an excellent family pet. I also haven’t encountered cats before.

Sadly, my siblings and I need to find new homes because our human mum recently passed away. I’m sad to leave my farm and my friends, but I’m resilient and adventurous, so I’m looking to the future and the excitement of finding new friends. If you’re looking for a sweet, loving, playful and gentle family member, I’m your boy.
