Meet Cruizer,
About: Cruizer is best suited with an owner who has experience in dog ownership. Reason for this is that Cruizer can be alert, a little bit anxious & nervous, shy & sensitive so an owner who understands these traits & knows how to navigate this would be ideal.
On the flip side, Cruizer is also gentle, friendly & happy. He's smart, curious & excited about life and meeting new people. Cruizer is playful, affectionate & engaging.
Cruizer is best suited to a calm & quiet household due to his 'big softy' nature.
Ideal Home: Cruizer is best to live in a house or on a farm/acreage, with a medium to large yard & high secure fencing.
Having access to inside on occasion would be great so that Cruizer can feel like part of a family.
Family: Cruizer is open to meet kids from 8 years & up. Kids would need to be dog savvy due to his breed mix as well as his timidity.
Cruizer is also fine to live with people who work part-time.
Furry Friends: Cruizer is best to be the only dog in the home. During his dog assessment he showed clear signs of being uncomfortable and not wanting to make friends. Initially he has minimal reaction and paid more attention to his handler, but as the assessment went on he became more uncomfortable. This may be due to lack of socialisation in his previous home or it could be that he just doesn't like other dogs. The good news is that Cruizer was able to let us know that he was not comfortable and did not escalate anything. Cruizer is fine to be walked around other dogs with no issues.
As we cannot test, we are unsure how Cruizer would go living with or meeting cats/pocket pets. This would be up to the discretion of his new owners.
Training & Development: Cruizer would benefit from post-adoption training, such as training at home to cover basic commands & obedience.
Cruizer is still learning his name, but he knows how to 'sit'. He can be a bit fussy with food so if you find treats that he likes make sure to continue to buy them as he does respond well to treats that he enjoys. Having treats on hand during training sessions would be a great idea too.
We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.
Play: Cruizer has medium energy levels and would benefit from exercise, play or walks from 30-60mins a day to keep him happy & healthy. Cruizer shows some interest in stuffed/plush toys.
Cruizer walks well on a lead and is best walked on a martingale & lead.
Staff Comments: Cruizer is very affectionate & sweet. He was let down in his last home & he needs someone who won't let him down in his new home. In the right environment he will thrive & become the best version of himself under the right guidance from a supportive & loving owner.

With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as flawless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories. Most left in the shelter by their owners. The information we receive is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks will surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
So please keep in touch with us after adoption so that we can help you settle your new family member in and address any unexpected behaviours.
