Meet Dixie,
About: Dixie is best suited with an owner who has experience in dog ownership. Reason for this is that Dixie can be a little nervous, shy & sensitive so an owner who knows how to navigate this would be ideal. Dixie lacks a little confidence so she needs an understanding owner to help boost her confidence.
On the positive side, Dixie is also very gentle, friendly & if you can't tell by her big smile, she is also very happy! Dixie is also smart & incredibly affectionate & loves making friends with new people.
She's a funny pint-size girl who genuinely loves love. She's cuddly & very funny. Dixie is best suited in a calm & quiet household but would also make a great companion for active people as she would love to accompany you on adventures, walks, hikes and more!
Ideal Home: Dixie is best to live in a house or on a farm/acreage, with a medium to large yard & high secure fencing.
Access inside is a priority for Dixie as she loves nothing more than spending time with people as much as she can. She's a true people lover & being inside would make her very happy!
Family: Dixie is open to meet kids from 10 years & up, reason for this is due to her timidity with sudden movement, and also because she tends to jump up to say hello on occasion - a behaviour that we are working with her on.
Dixie is also fine to live with people who work part-time.
Furry Friends: Dixie is open to meet dog but may be dog selective with who she chooses to be friends with. During her dog assessment she tends to do her own thing and is quite independent. There was some avoidance but then there were times that she wanted to interact & play. She offered play bows and got the zoomies but also wanted to do her own thing. We feel that she can co-exist with another dog, providing that the other dog is chill and happy to acknowledge her existence without being too dependent on attention from her.
As we cannot test, we are unsure how Dixie would go living with or meeting cats/pocket pets. This would be up to the discretion of her new owners.
Training & Development: Dixie would benefit from post-adoption training, such as training at home to cover basic commands & obedience, and group classes to assist her with her dog social skills.
Dixie knows her name, she also knows how to 'sit'. As she is food motivated it would be great idea to have treats on hand as she responds well to them during training sessions.
We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.
Play: Dixie has medium energy levels and she would benefit from exercise, play or walks from 30-60mins a day. Dixie doesn't have a favourite toy as yet but she does like to bark & play with the hose.
Dixie walks well but does pull sometimes, so she is best walked on a martingale & lead.
Staff Comments: Dixie is very lovable and affectionate but lacks confidence. She requires patience and slow movements so she doesn't get startled. She is funny, loves to play & is just a great little dog.

With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as flawless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories. Most left in the shelter by their owners. The information we receive is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks will surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
So please keep in touch with us after adoption so that we can help you settle your new family member in and address any unexpected behaviours.
The adoption fee for dogs covers C3 vaccination, health check, heartworm testing, desexing, micro-chipping, and registration.
