He will need to be the only dog in the home.
We've been a fortunate foster family to Axel for the last week. He is truly a beautiful dog with a lovely soul. 11 months old, he's surprisingly well behaved and calm, well beyond his age. He takes instruction well and understands the formality of being inside, leaving playtime to outside only.
He's fully toilet trained, walks comfortably on a lead and is cat friendly. Unfortunately our dog friendly cat, has not taken a liking to him.
Some observations on Axel:
No personality or behavioural issues evident. He sleeps through the night alone in our lounge room
No destructive behaviours
No biting, and rarely barks.
Not food possessive and responds well to treats
Enjoys training and being given instruction.
Can entertain himself on his own with some small toys and balls. Will happily sit outside during the day until you let him in.
Doesnt want to sleep on your bed, and although he likes the couch, he understands that his dog bed (in our lounge area) is his spot. He's respectful when you sit down for dinner, and whikst with us at least, doesn't beg for food.
He has a beautiful face and puppy dog eyes. He has some fear of getting in the car, which I think weve almost overcome, buy he behaves very well whilst travelling. There is some anxiousness when in the car, but I think this can be easily overcome. We have left him home alone a few times during both the day and at night for a few hours. He has behaved well. He is not overly needy, but does love your company and will never say no to a hug.
He likes other dogs, but can be a little intimated by dominat ones. He is a welcome guest in our home who interacts really well with children and teenagers as well as everyone else. A soft and warm soul who loves cuddles and kisses and is eager to please.
Axel is highly trainable and has had some training already. We are working on some basic commands, all of which he reponds well to. He reads people well and takes simple correction well. Sit, Stay, On Your Bed, Inside/Outside and others are in train.
He does not dig and does not snatch his food and will eat from your hand. He waits for his food and will now sit until you give him the go ahead to eat.
He is a medium energy dog who requires a walk each day, but will keep himself active.
He has a huge heart and loves human interaction. He has licked us to death over the last few days. A very warm soul that we would 110% keep if it wasn’t for personal circumstances.
A home with a larger back yard would suit him. He's not an escape artist and shows no signs of trying to leave even with open doors he remains inside or just on the boundary.
We have been training him to sleep on his own in our lounge room and he does that very well. No beds or sofas, but he does like the sofa. He understands his blanket and if he does get on the sofa, its on his blanket only. He loves a good brush and will sit still for as long as you want to brush him. His coat is beautiful. He is trim, fit and of the right weight and appears to be as healthy as you could possibly expect.
