About Olive
Olive was originally a SAFE Karratha dog adopted years ago, but her family relinquished her due to their own changed circumstances.
We *believe* her age is as shown (almost 9 years)—we have this from her previous vet records. However the microchip company has her listed as 4+ years older! Our vet says there’s no real way to tell for sure, but in either case she’s a hale and hearty senior. She lost the vision in one of her eyes many years ago, and needs to lose ALOT of weight, but has no other health issues.
A healthy weight for Olive would be about 5kgs, but she came to us in mid-June just over DOUBLE that! Her foster carer has done an amazing job with Olive’s diet and exercise, (she’s already lost a little over 2 kgs), but her new owner will need to remain diligent in this area. The vet has recommended she continue to lose 1/2 kg/month until she reaches goal.
Olive loves a walk, and will start spinning in circles when she sees the lead. She’ll also spin for treats. But what Olive loves most (besides food) is cuddling with a quiet, gentle, female human. She doesn’t cope well with the cold, and has been spending most of her time in care hiding under blankets. In fact, her fosters thought she had escaped one day after a search of the house initially yielded no results. A 2nd pat-down of the bed revealed Olive curled up under the doona, behind a sleeping child's knees.
We were given mixed information from the owner about how she is with other dogs, but have not been able to confirm. She has snapped at both men and children in the past, we believe this is when startled from her sleep, or when approached from her blind side. Her fosterer adds that Olive can be very determined, even stubborn, about getting her way, and is a champion snorer :) She is not good with cats. Her photos don't do her justice--a photo shoot is still being arranged!
We believe Olive would be best suited to a quiet home without children or other animals. Could you give this girl the retirement she wants?
