About Sarge
Introducing the handsome Sarge!
Sarge is a Siberian Husky born 21st February 2023.
Sarge was brought in to us as a stray, however his owner never returned our calls and never came to collect him. Sarge came to us in quite bad condition. All of his ribs were visible and he was emotionally shut down. Since being with us he's started putting weight back on and has slowly come out of his shell. He has proved himself to be a very sweet boy who loves cuddles and he's very gentle when taking treats, food & toys from humans.
Sarge tested quite well with other dogs. He was perfect with a smaller female and he kept looking to the handler for instructions before returning his attention to her. He also met a larger male, who he approached happily. The other dog growled at Sarge, so he had a small growl in retaliation but remained calm otherwise. He wanted to approach again, when the other dog became reactive and started barking aggressively towards him. Sarge was happy to calmly walk away from the reactive dog with no signs of aggression seen. We believe Sarge could be suitable to live with another dog or he'd be happy being the spoilt only "child" at home. If you have a friendly dog at home, we will need to do a meet & greet with them to ensure they get along before going home.
Sarge looked at our cats & moved on almost immediately. We believe that with a slow & controlled introduction he could potentially be suitable to live with cats.
*Please note: our cat testing is done through an enclosure, we cannot guarantee how he will react if they were free roaming in front of him.
Unfortunately Sarge has shown signs of prey drive towards pocket pets so he will be rehomed to a family with no smaller animals like chickens & rabbits.
Sarge is very good on lead and shows no signs of food aggression towards humans.
Sarge has shown signs of separation anxiety while being at the facility, however this seems to have eased since being moved from a kennel into the larger exercise yard. When he was segregated in his kennel he would cry almost constantly, whereas he's been consistently quiet and settled since being moved into the larger area.
Sarge's adoption fee is $450 and includes his desexing and lifetime registration.
Sarge is also regularly treated for flea and worms and is up to date with his vaccinations.

Adoption details
If you are interested in adopting one of our animals, please contact us on 0499 900 272.
Staff will ask more about your lifestyle and the information you provide will helps us to achieve the best match between the dog or cat and their new home. We will also have certain adoption requirements that have to be approved prior to meeting the animal (eg fencing requirements, no young kids, etc)
Once all of your questions have been answered and adoption requirements met and approved, its time to meet your potential new furbaby. This meet will be conducted at the shelter in the Hunter Valley.
Should you have an existing dog in your life, we will require a meet and greet to ensure that they get along.
The final step (pending agreement by both parties) is the payment of the adoption fee and filling in of associated paperwork for your new furbaby.
Congratulations, you have now saved a life!
