About Cobalt
Meet Cobalt,( Akaâ Peanutâ) an absolutely adorable and charming boy who is bursting with energy and enthusiasm. This happy and goofy pooch is eagerly waiting to join an active family that can match his zest for life. Despite facing the unfortunate circumstance of being abandoned in a pound, Cobalt has maintained an incredibly positive and cheerful demeanor. He exudes love and joy for both people and other dogs, making him a delightful companion.
Cobalt is a stunning mix of Labrador and Border Collie, which contributes to his happy-go-lucky nature. He is on the lookout for his forever family, one that shares his enthusiasm for life and can provide him with the love and care he deserves.
Favorite Activities:
Cobalt has a few favorite activities that bring him immense joy. He absolutely loves playing in water, whether itâs splashing around with a hose or frolicking in a local stream at the park. He is truly a water baby at heart. Additionally, he enjoys playing with other dogs and, true to his Labrador genes, he has a great fondness for food.
Interaction with Humans:
When it comes to interacting with humans, Cobalt is full of wags and kisses. He adores being around his people and is always eager to show his affection. Although he can get a little jumpy at times, he has been diligently working on learning to sit for pats, ensuring that all four paws stay on the ground. While he still needs occasional reminders, he is making excellent progress. Cobaltâs happiness is truly infectious, and he radiates joy wherever he goes.
Interaction with Other Dogs:
Cobalt is a very social dog and has had no issues getting along with the three other dogs he has been living with. He can get a bit distracted at the local oval when he sees another dog, as he wants to greet everyone. However, he has been undergoing daily training to improve his recall, and he is doing exceptionally well. On a leash, he can become barky and excitable when in close proximity to other dogs, often pulling towards them. To address this, he has been working on the âleave itâ command, although it still requires ongoing practice. Off-leash, he loves to play and chase other dogs, displaying polite behavior during playtime. He has shown no issues around food when with other dogs.
Exercise:
Cobalt thoroughly enjoys his daily walks. He has been allowed off-leash at the local oval and park, where he demonstrates good recall in low-distraction environments, especially when rewarded with tasty treats like chicken. On a leash, he walks reasonably well, although he tends to zigzag a bit. He is not overly strong but does pull when he sees another dog, eager to say hello. A slip lead has proven to be the most effective tool for managing his leash behavior.
Sleep:
Cobalt sleeps soundly in his bed overnight and has access to a doggy door for toileting purposes.
Hygiene:
Cobalt has a middle-length coat that is easy to care for, requiring regular brushing, which he thoroughly enjoys. He loves baths and the accompanying rub-a-dub-dub. Occasionally, he may have a few accidents inside, primarily âwee only,â but he has improved significantly since learning to use the doggy door. Regular reminders to go outside, especially before bedtime, help maintain his hygiene routine.
Car Travel:
Cobalt loves car rides but hasnât quite mastered jumping into the boot yet. He prefers a little assistance in lifting his rear end, which adds a touch of humor to his adventures.
Obedience Training:
Cobalt knows basic commands such as sit, wait, and mat. He practices daily obedience training, which provides him with valuable mental stimulation. He is eager to please and thrives on the positive reinforcement he receives. While his jumping behavior has improved, it still requires some work. He tends to gulp his food down and isnât the most polite when taking treats, but these are minor quirks that can be addressed with continued training.
Inside the Home:
Initially, Cobalt can be quite excited when coming inside. He may jump onto the couch but is directed to his mat, which he is mastering well. Once settled, he will snooze contentedly while you watch television. Being a foodie, he is still learning polite manners, such as not putting his paws on the kitchen bench and staying on his mat when people are eating.
Outside Time:
As a young dog, Cobalt has a mischievous side. He has had a few escapades with his right-hand companion, resulting in the mysterious explosion of a dog bed and some upturned plants. To keep him engaged and prevent boredom, he needs stimulation when left alone outside, a high value treat goes down well.
Independence:
Cobalt spends a significant amount of time outside while his family is at work, often in the company of other dogs. He prefers having company and can become a little barky when left alone for too long. Therefore, he would be best suited to a home with another dog or someone who is home more often than not. Providing him with a chew toy or a kong filled with kibble helps keep him occupied, and he wonât say no to a big marrow bone.
Ideal Home:
Cobaltâs ideal home would include another female playmate who enjoys a bit of rough and tumble. A family that is willing to continue his training and provide both physical and mental exercise is essential. He thrives in an environment where he is included as part of the family and has people around for part of the day if he is not rehomed with another dog. Apartment living is not suitable for Cobalt. His new family should understand that he is still young and bouncy, and they should be prepared to continue his training to help him reach his full potential.
