Meet Huxley,
About: Huxley is a friendly & happy boy who is playful & excited to make friends wherever he goes. He is affectionate and engaging but may be a little boisterous at times.
Huxley is best suited to someone who has owned dogs before and has experience, he is also fine to live in any household environment and would be a great dog for active people as he loves to explore & go on adventures.
Ideal Home: Huxley is best to live in a house or on a farm/acreage, with a medium to large yard & high secure fencing.
Access indoors to spent time with his new family would be a dream come true for Huxley as he adores people.
Family: Huxley is open to meet kids from 8-10 years & up just because he can be a little jumpy & he is known to mouth when he is excited.
Huxley is also fine to live with people who work full-time hours.
Furry Friends: Huxley is open to meet dogs. During his dog assessment he initially was unsure for a very brief moment then after a few sniffs became very friendly & offered many play bows and started to get the zoomies.
As we cannot test, we are unsure how Huxley would go living with or meeting cats/pocket pets. This would be up to the discretion of his new owners.
Training & Development: Huxley would benefit from post-adoption training, such as training at home to cover basic commands/obedience & group classes to ensure that his dog social skills remain sharp.
With additional training Huxley could be the type of dog that you could take to a dog friendly café or social setting.
Huxley is still learning his name, but he knows how to ‘sit’ and is food motivated so treats would be a great training tool to have on hand.
We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.
Play: Huxley’s energy levels are mid-range, and he would benefit from exercise, play, or walks from 30-60mins a day. Huxley loves stuffed toys, and he loves to throw them around & catch them mid-air.
Huxley walks well but is strong on lead – loose leash training should be incorporated into his training regime & he is best walked with a martingale.
Staff Comments: Huxley can be a bit odd in his kennel before he gets to meet you, but he really blossoms once he’s out & interacting with you. He is very cuddly and playful, although he does jump & lightly mouths you when he is excited, he is still such a great dog who is social and playful. A little training with him would make the world of difference.

With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as flawless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories. Most left in the shelter by their owners. The information we receive is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks will surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
So please keep in touch with us after adoption so that we can help you settle your new family member in and address any unexpected behaviours.
The adoption fee for dogs covers C3 vaccination, health check, heartworm testing, desexing, micro-chipping, and registration.
The adoption fee for cats covers F3 vaccination, health check, desexing, micro-chipping, and registration.
