Meet Sirius,
About: Sirius may look like a serious dog, but he’s actually the biggest goofball you will ever met. He is a big, and we mean BIG, boy who is happy & friendly, although a little aloof at times. He means well but he is just so excited to meet you that he will jump up & at his size this kind of behaviour isn’t well received but he is smart enough to know better.
Sirius is best suited to owners that have experience with shepherds, and he needs a committed owner because Sirius is committed to be your loyal friend.
Sirius is suitable for any household environment. If you are active & spend lots of time outside that’s ok too, Sirius will love to come along for the ride.
Ideal Home: Sirius is best to live in a house or on a farm/acreage, with a large yard & high secure fencing.
Access inside the home would be ideal so that he can spend time with his new family.
Family: Sirius is open to meet kids from 13 years & up, reason for this is because of his jumping behaviour. But we are working with him on this.
Sirius is fine to live with people who work part-time hours as he needs an owner who will be attentive to his training needs.
Furry Friends: Sirius is open to meet dogs and during his dog assessment he showed comfortable behaviours & was happy to sniff & lick the other dog. He was respectful, able to do his own thing and then check back in with his new dog friend.
As we cannot test, we are unsure how Sirius would go living with or meeting cats/pocket pets. This would be up to the discretion of his new owners.
Training & Development: Sirius would benefit from post-adoption training such as training at home to over basic commands/obedience and group classes to keep his dog social skills sharp.
With a little extra training Sirius could be the type of dog that you could take to a dog friendly café or social setting, but his size should be taken into consideration.
Sirius is still learning his name, but he knows how to ‘sit’ & ‘shake’. He is very food motivated and treats would be a good training tool to have on hand, but he is still learning the art of taking them gently.
We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.
Play: Sirius has mid-range energy levels and would benefit from exercise, play, or walks from 30-60mins per day. Sirius also loves to play with soft toys.
Sirius is very strong on lead and does pull, loose leash training should be incorporated into his training regime. He is also best walked on a martingale.
Staff Comments: Sirius is cuddly when he has calmed down. He’s a very jumpy dog and not very gentle with taking treats but we think he would be awesome in a home environment with a routine and committed owner.

With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as flawless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories. Most left in the shelter by their owners. The information we receive is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks will surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
So please keep in touch with us after adoption so that we can help you settle your new family member in and address any unexpected behaviours.
