Hi friends,
My name is Doug! I was rescued from a remote council pound after my owners got rid of me. They said it was because I was bullying their other dog. I was very scared in the pound, but excited to be released and reach safety!
Since coming into care, I've lived with a large breed adult female dog, medium breed adult male dog, and a teen male puppy. I tolerated them all, however I am seeking a forever home with a small breed female dog who's able to play with me. While the other dogs and I got along, I wasn't happy as I had to keep dodging them due to the size difference. I'd love to have a dog friend for company- it just needs to be someone that won't scare me and can match my energy level.
I have an energetic and friendly nature, and I love to be around my humans and part of the action. I was a good boy at the vet, and am learning to walk on the leash but I also don't mind being carried if you need to. When I came into care, it was pretty evident I had rarely been inside the house; I was not toilet trained at all. My carers are working hard on my toilet training but this is something my new owners will need to continue. I am learning basic commands too, like 'sit', 'come', and 'bed'. I hate baths and having my nails done, however pugs require good grooming, so regular exposure is important so that I can gain confidence in this area.
I love children and live with some under 5's in my foster home. I love their energy and playing with them! We also have cats here but I don't like them very much, so please don't try to make me live with any. I like car rides and sit quietly in the back seat, secured in my harness. I respond well to an experienced owner who is confident and will enforce boundaries with me. Despite being 6kg fully grown, I have a big personality and if you let me rule the roost, I will. Don't let my adorable happy butt wiggle fool you- I need to know that you make the rules here!
While my vet has said I'm in tip top shape with no evident issues typical with the brachycephalic breeds, it is important my breed and physical make up are respected and certain things carefully considered. For example, pugs and pug crosses are more susceptible to heat stress. It's crucial you won't exercise me in the heat and that I have a cool place to stay in summer- preferable air conditioned. I also can't swim well- and pugs are more likely to drown than others. So while I don't mind a little splash in (very) shallow water, you need to keep a close eye on me and ensure I can't tip into any ponds, pools etc and that I am supervised around water.
My ideal home will let me be a part of the family, and provide ongoing and consistent training and boundaries. I'd love to go on walks with you. I understand you'll probably have a job, and that's fine- someone has to pay for all my treats! But please don't leave me alone all day every day. I'd suit a part time worker and will settle best with someone who is home a lot and can take me with them on outings. I may be tiny, but my heart and personality are large and I want to spend time with you, not missing you!
So what do you think- can we make a great team? If so, apply to adopt me. I promise, I'm like a great exercise routine- the more effort you put into me, the more rewards you'll reap. Let me be your little bestie, snuggle bug and sidekick.
I can't wait to meet you... love Doug.

NEED TRANSPORT?
1. Apply to adopt per the above process.
2. Get quotes and select your desired transporter. We recommend Aeropets, Jetpets, and Dogtainers. Contact us for weights, height etc where needed. We also recommend Pet Waggin pet transport who can assist with road transport.
3. Message or email us to say you have applied and that you will require transport. Tell us which company and a potential departure date from that pet's nearest airport or meet point.
4. If your application is successful, we will lock in a date with you, coordinate any required 'fit to fly' certifications, a food delivery to your home, and appropriate training to make your new pet as comfortable on transport as possible.
