About Charlie
PLEASE NOTE THAT UNFORTUNATELY WE ARE UNABLE TO FLY OUR ANIMALS EITHER WITHIN WA OR INTERSTATE
NAME: Charlie
BEFORE RESCUE: Came to SAFE Esperance from the pound
.
BREED: German Shepherd x American Staffordshire Terrier
BREED TRAITS: The German Shepherd was originally bred to herd flocks all day, is intelligent and makes a great working dog in many areas. This high energy dog needs a lot of activity and exercise, and is otherwise likely to chew and bark, obedience training is a must. German Shepherds make devoted family pets and courageous protectors and early exposure and socialisation will make them more accepting of different people and circumstances. They love to be with their humans so if left alone for long periods they can become anxious. They have quite a high prey drive.
American Staffordshire Terriers are quite high energy, playful, affectionate and intelligent but do require training as they can be headstrong. They are very social with adults and children and are extremely loyal but can suffer from separation anxiety if left for long periods. Their sociability with dogs is a facet that needs work from an early age.
***************************************************************************
ASSETS: He’s a little timid when first meeting new people but once he’s comfortable he’s easy-going, affectionate, friendly, outgoing, active and very sweet!
FAVOURITE THINGS: Charlie loves to play with toys and enjoys running at the dog park or beach. He loves to play with other dogs and is great company. He’s super affectionate, vocal and loves to be around his person lapping up any cuddles he can get!
ENDEARING FEATURES: Charlie is just the sweetest boy who's really smart with a beautiful personality.
OTHER ANIMALS: He gets on well with other dogs and would love another dog for company in his new home. He chases birds which he thinks is a game and has not been cat tested.
GENERAL INFO: Charlie walks well on the lead. He is housetrained, but may have an accident when left alone for a long period. Charlie will become anxious if left for long periods and then may chew things to keep himself occupied, he is otherwise not a destructive dog. His current foster carer works part time and can pop home to check on him throughout the day - this keeps Charlie chill and he loves his frozen Kong toys. He will bark when someone is at the door and has a medium energy level. Charlie is timid around new people until he knows that you mean him no harm - this relates to his original home where we feel the male in the home was not kind to him. If you allow Charlie to trust in his own time without pushing, he accepts you quickly. He travels well in the car and knows a few commands.
ESSENTIALS for Charlie:
** An active, loving home with someone who can be with him for part of the day or can take him with them when they go out. He wants to be someone’s best friend.
** He’s a fairly active boy so will need good daily exercise, playtime and mental activity. A home that is willing to involve him in daily activities is essential for him.
** Training would be ideal for Charlie to work and stimulate his active mind and to grow his confidence.
** Charlie needs a fenced, secure yard with grass and interesting things to sniff and explore.
**Charlie needs to be allowed inside the home when you are there and to sleep inside at night.
We feel that Charlie would be better suited to an adult only home as he is wary of children as their movements and noise level can frighten him. He would love another dog with a similar energy level to live and play with and help with his anxiety if left alone. At the very least he would love to have interaction with other dogs on a regular basis.
If Charlie sounds like the perfect fit for your family, please send an enquiry and we’ll be in touch soon.
