About Dusty
Our handsome and 100% good boy Dusty is ready to find his loving family.
When we get a dog from the pound we never know what we are getting. Particularly one that has been in the pound for an extended period. Well Dusty has been brilliant from the day he stepped his paws into his foster home.
Dusty is a staffordshire terrier cross (we are making a guess kelpie) but without a DNA test who would know. His estimated date of birth is 10 February 2023. He is under knee height.
A message from his foster family:
Hello, future family.
I would like to introduce myself.
I'm Dusty.
I am believed to be kelpie x staffy and estimated to be under 2yo.
My foster mum says I'm a total sweetheart. I love being indoor and out door, although mum reckons my favourite is being outside.
I'm happy to curl up on the couch for a cuddle, but I also like my own space - but I WILL definitely take over your bed at night!
I love my fur-brother, Diesel (dog) and we have fun playing, but sometimes when I just want to chill he's a little much and I get growly (no aggression towards him), just establishing my boundaries.
I also like my fur-brother, George (6 month old cat), and he doesn't mind me when I'm nice and calm, but I do get a bit excited at times and want to chase him to play ... but he doesn't like that. So if I'm to go to a family with a cat, the cat needs to be calm and dog savvy so I don't get too excited and chasey.
I've been really good with my foster mum, foster sisters (19 & 16yo) and foster brother (11yo) who is neuro-diverse so he's pretty loud and hypo - but I've been 100% good.
It took me a couple of days to warm up to my foster dad (LOOOVE HIM NOW!) so mum & Dad think maybe I've had a bad experience with a man/men ... so I might take a little bit to warm up to a new dad, but with lots of love and patience, I'll be the bestest lap dog.
All the things about me:
1. I'm smart & learn fast... I've learnt how to shake. I'm learning "off", "out" and "lay down"
2. I love being around people. I'm still learning about personal space because I do get a little excited and will walk on you and get in your face for kisses
3. When you're out and come home I will be so excited to see you I will jump all over you, but I am learning to stay down. (Slowly)
4. I sit for food. Oh, I LOVE food! So dinner time is pretty easy. I'll even let you put your hand in my bowl! I am a slow eater so if I have a fur-sibling dog, we may need to eat separately if other pupper likes to eat all the food. I don't have any food aggression and am happy to eat with/next to another dog.
5. I get along well with other dogs, but I do get a little growly and snappy if they are in my face too much, especially when I just want to relax.
6. I'm great around kids. Mum & Dad believe I would be compatible with any age - however, because I do have my moments of hypo excitement, I definitely need to be monitored around little ones so I don't knock them over (mum has nicknamed me bulldozer 🤣)
7. The only time mum hears me bark is when someone comes to the door. I just want to let the people know I am here.
8. I'm not 100% house trained for toileting, but am learning. Although I don't have any accidents inside over night, but sometimes during the day I might (mum & Dad are teaching me "outside" whenever they take me out for the toilet.
9. I know the sound of car keys - so when I hear the keys, I get soooo excited and will run to the front door. Same as the leash ... if I see it, I'll get excited!
10. Mum & Dad are working on my recall because I won't come back if I get out (yes, I snuck past mum once already. I did stop when she called my name, but I didn't come back 😬). That was a fun game of human chasey 🤣.
Dusty has been flea and worm treated, vaccinated, microchipped and desexed, so is ready to find his forever home. Dusty's adoption fee is $650.00

Adoption details
We like to take the personal approach where a person sends an email of interest around an animal and then we will follow up with phone discussions and email exploration through a survey.
Please note we are a small group of volunteers that balances the administrative side with the care of the animals.
Please only apply for one of our animals if you are genuinely interested in them.
We expect the prospective owner to travel to meet the animal and we are open to trial periods to ensure we have the match right.
