Meet Moss, a cuddle big who loves her human friends...
About: Moss is a gentle and slightly nervous little girl. She means well but her lack of socialisation can be seen in what most dogs would thrive in. Nevertheless, Moss is friendly & happy and quite a smart cookie.
A typical puppy, she is known to be excitable and playful. She loves being with her human friends and is affectionate & engaging.
Moss is suitable for first time owners who are willing to put in the effort. She is also best to live in a quiet & calm home environment and is a great choice for active individuals/families as she would love to come on any adventure with you.
Ideal Home: Moss would do well to live in a house or on a farm/acreage, with a large yard & high secure fencing.
Being a lover of humans Moss would love to be able to spend time indoors with her new family.
Family: Moss is open to meet kids from 6-8 years of age, and this is simply because of her timidity which is a by-product of her lack of socialisation in her previous home, she is very much suitable for kids of all ages, but slightly older kids may understand her limitations more than younger kids.
Moss is also best suited to people who work part-time hours.
Furry Friends: Moss is open to meet dogs. During her dog assessment she was very relaxed & loose when meeting the other dog. There were lots of licks, tail wags and play bows.
As we cannot test, we are unsure how Moss would go living with or meeting cats/pocket pets. This would be up to the discretion of her new owners.
Training & Development: Moss would also benefit from post-adoption training, such as training at home to cover basic commands/obedience and group classes to ensure that the dog social skills she already posses remain sharp (these classes can also assist her with world social skills too).
With further training Moss is the type of dog that you could take to a dog friendly café or social event. She just needs a little more confidence and socialisation.
Moss is still learning her name, but she knows ‘sit’, ‘shake’, ‘down’ and ‘roll over’. Treats will be your best friend during training sessions as she loves food & is food motivated. She also takes them gently from your hand also.
We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.
Play: Moss has mid-range energy levels and would benefit from exercise, play, or walks from 30-60mins per day. Moss is not too interested in toys at this stage, she prefers a good cuddle session with her human friends.
Moss may jump up to say hello, but she is learning that this is not a favourable behaviour.
Moss will need additional training when walking on a lead. She is very excited to walk and will circle around her handler, zig zag or go between her handlers leg when she walks as she takes in the sights & sounds of the environment. She is best walked on a harness for this reason to give the handler more control. Loose lead walking should be incorporated into her training regime.
Staff Comments: Moss is very engaging with her handlers, she is gentle with treats, very smart and affectionate.

With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as flawless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories. Most left in the shelter by their owners. The information we receive is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks will surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
So please keep in touch with us after adoption so that we can help you settle your new family member in and address any unexpected behaviours.
The adoption fee for dogs covers C3 vaccination, health check, heartworm testing, desexing, micro-chipping, and registration.
The adoption fee for cats covers F3 vaccination, health check, desexing, micro-chipping, and registration.
