Origami

Origami has a delightfully lovely temperament. She is always eager to please her owners and has shown great bravery during vet visits and surgery. Origami is incredibly smart and learns new things very quickly with consistent routine and training. However, she can be slightly head-strong at times, a trait common to her breed. Origami doesn't always want to come home after a walk or may want to go a different direction than her foster carer.

Generally, Origami is very calm and allows anyone to pet her. But she can be quite skittish around certain stimuli like gates, trucks, and vacuums, which can cause her to become jumpy and anxious. With calm reassurance, though, she settles down quickly and returns to her relaxed state, whether she's sleeping, walking, or exploring.

Origami adores attention and affection, often following her owners around and sitting or lying down at their feet just to be close, even during walks.

MY IDEAL HOME: She would thrive in a home with someone or a family who are frequently present and can provide her with clear boundaries and consistent training. Although she is very curious and friendly with everyone now, as she gets older she may become more territorial and protective of her home and family as is consistent with the Shar Pei breed, a family with previous Shar Pei experience would be ideal.

MY ENERGY LEVEL: On walks, Origami is brimming with energy, her puppy nature in full force. She pulls strongly on the lead, requiring training to better manage her excitement. At home, Origami transforms into a couch potato, sleeping for most of the day. However, when she needs to go outside, she alerts you by walking to the door.

MY SUITABILITY TO CHILDREN: During her walks, Origami remains remarkably calm and friendly when children approach to greet her. With ongoing socialisation and management, she would likely be okay to live with children 10 and up.

MY SUITABILITY TO CATS AND DOGS: Origami is a friendly girl who loves to greet other canines by sniffing and licking them. She can sometimes get overly excited, which causes some dogs to avoid playing with her. She would likely do well in a home with another confident dog. She has not met a cat but with a careful introduction, we can't see why she couldn't.
