About Dougie ๐ Maltese x Chih, 2 yrs (On Trial 7/7/24)
Dougie is a very loving, Maltese x Chihuahua, 2 years and 8 months old. He is a great combination of playful and affectionate. He loves playing fetch and tug and killing squeaky toys! He also has a very smoochy side and enjoys a cuddle and a lap. He is a non-shedding dog, so good for people with allergies. He has a cute under bite which gives him a unique, toothy smile ๐.
He is in foster care with two other dogs and he plays with the younger one. Dougie would be great as an only dog or else he could live with another little dog so long as the other dog doesnโt mind sharing his/her people with him.
Dougie absolutely loves going for walks and walks nicely on a harness and lead. I use a 5m lead so he can run and sniff. Heโs great with the dogs and people he lives with but doesnโt want to be approached by unfamiliar dogs or people when heโs out for walks. Which is fair enough, neither do I ๐.
He is good in the car ๐. He will bark to let you know when anyone walks past so he's not suited to an apartment or a busy area with lots of people and dogs walking past all day. Dougie would appreciate it if you would share a tiny bit of your pizza ๐with him.
Dougie likes to spend time outside sun baking but he is very much an inside dog. He wasnโt housetrained when he came to rescue but he is doing really well so long as I remember to let him out regularly. He sleeps all night in his bed in a puppy pen and I never hear him all night.
Dougie adores everyone in his foster home. He is wary when meeting someone for the first time, but if they sit down and ignore him for a few minutes, he is fine. Because he is stressed by strangers, he isnโt suitable to a busy household with lots of people coming and going, or where there are children under 12 years old.
๐ Dougie has a very soft, plale, creamy coloured coat. Since he doesnโt shed, he needs professional clipping approximately every 6 to 8 weeks and regular bathing, and nail clipping. You should be prepared for this expense if you want a low shedding dog. He needs to be combed every few days to prevent tangles.
