About Marlo
Marlo is a pure-bred Golden Retriever, just under 2 years of age. (D.O.B. 27.05.23).
He is one gorgeous boy and has been waiting to go to his new home for some months now. There has been almost no enquiries for this boy and we can't understand why? He is such a well-trained boy, so eager to please and just loves your company.
HE MUST HAVE ANOTHER DOG OF SIMILAR SIZE IN THE HOME. Marlo will not be rehomed in a unit, apartment or villa.
The Golden Retriever is known for a kindly expression and easy-going temperament and makes an ideal family companion.
The Golden Retriever is a strong powerful dog and Marlo weighs in at around 36kg.
Being a swimmer and loving the water, Marlo's coat is weather-resistant, of medium texture with undercoat.
The Golden Retriever is kind, gentle and confident, as well as affectionate with people and other pets. It is a devoted and loyal breed with a beautiful temperament and an aim to please. It wants to be around its family all the time and will not be happy if left outside for long periods.
The Golden Retriever is intelligent and responds well to training. The breed thrives on structured training programs and is a top performer in Obedience and Agility trials. Because of its friendly nature towards strangers, as well as friends, it is not suitable as a watchdog.
The Golden Retriever has a flat or wavy coat with a dense, water-resisting undercoat. Marlo loves the water and swimming in the dam on his foster carer's property. The coat sheds throughout the year, with two heavy moulting stages during that time. Daily brushing can help reduce the amount it will shed and prevent matting, which can lead to skin irritations. You must be prepared to continue with his grooming to keep his coat in good condition.
The Golden Retriever is adaptable and can easily fit into any situation due to its kind nature. The breed is happiest when it is accepted as a valuable member of the family.
Marlo is an active Golden Retriever and needs regular exercise, such as a daily walk and, if possible, a run. He just loves swimming daily in the dam on the property where he is fostered. He needs regular mental and physical stimulation, to keep him out of mischief. He must have a yard big enough for him to run around in, with secure gates and fencing (preferably Colourbond).
The Golden Retriever makes a wonderful companion for the elderly, people with disabilities and families with children. However, like with any dog, supervision is important when around children.
Like all dogs, Marlo requires regular tick, flea, intestinal worms and heartworm treatments and is up to date with all these treatments and is desexed. We would suggest consulting your veterinarian on treatment options. Vaccination against diseases, such as the deadly parvo virus and highly infectious kennel cough, are also important to discuss with your vet.
Now you know a little about the Golden Retriever, you may think that this is the dog for you. Before you make a decision to apply to adopt Marlo, please do your own research and gain a better perspective of the Golden Retriever and its needs, and whether this breed would suit your lifestyle.
It should be noted that Marlo is in care in Kempsey (approx. 5 hours north from Sydney and 1/2 hour from Kempsey). HE IS READY AND WAITING TO GO TO HIS NEW LOVING HOME!!!

.......................
Midcoast Dog Rescue Inc. is trying to expand its foster carer network so that we can help more dogs in need. This is a very rewarding experience and suits a variety of people. Some people, for whatever reason, are unable to make a permanent commitment to a dog, a commitment which can last for up to 15 years. Others use the fostering experience as an interim measure before committing to permanently owning a dog. If you think you could be interested in becoming a foster carer, either on a long-term or a short-term basis, and would like more information please contact Nigel on 6584 4992 or Wendy on 6584 7027.
