About Meeka
Not for interstate adoption apart from the ACT
Must go to a home with another small/medium well adjusted, friendly and playful dog
PROFILE AND NEEDS IN A HOME
Meeka came to us from a breeding facility where she did not get much socialisation with people and no socialisation in the world outside the kennel environment. Due to Meeka's rough start in life she can be timid to start with meeting new people and in new environments, however given just a bit of time she has shown that she is able to adapt. Despite her timid nature she has a loveable, friendly and affectionate nature.
Meeka is the kind of loyal friend who once settled, easily becomes one with her human family. In a short space of time she has showcased her incredible capacity for love and kinship.
Meeka enjoys the companionship of both people and pets alike. She loves being around others and is happiest with another dog so her new family must have an existing, friendly, playful, well-adjusted dog / dogs in the home.
Meeka is currently in care with a 4 year old Toy Cavoodle and a 2.5 year Toy Cavoodle, both of which have been extremely great role models to her, she spends her time watching and copying their behaviour. It would be important that when Meeka is adopted, that she has a well adjusted canine role model to continue to learn from. There are also 2 cats , 2 adults and 2 teenagers living with her.
Meeka has spent time at the local park (on lead only) and doesn't seem to be bothered by any other dogs, large or small. She's friendly and given a new taste of life is extremely curious exploring the new surrounds.
Meeka definitely becomes more confident when around her foster siblings, she instantly has a spring in her step and wants to be part of the pack.
She hasn't shown anxiety when her foster carers leave her alone with their dogs for short periods of time, although when left alone with no dogs, she did become quite upset and took some time to settle.
Meeka can become anxious in the car which is slowly improving with each short trip we do.
Meeka has long legs and can jump very high. It would be important for any future family adopting her, that they had high fences to avoid her leaping over them.
Meeka has taken a liking to barking at our cats and rounding them up. This may stop once the novelty wears off, although a family with no cats would probably be best suited.
Playtime with Meeka has been a joy. She's learning how to engage with toys and other dogs, showing great progress. At night, she loves snuggling in bed with the family and is perfectly content on the lounge while the family watches television. Therefore, a household where she has full access indoors would suit her best.
Meeka must be permitted on the couch for cuddle time and to sleep in the bedroom / in bed. Meeka will take herself to bed when she is ready and sleeps right through the night.
Meeka was introduced to young children outside the home and became very timid and took some time to warm up. This was repeated inside the home and she was much more relaxed and friendly. We believe she would be suited to older children over the age of 8 years provided they were kind and gentle with animals and understand and respect her initial need for personal space, and given time she should form loving bonds with them too.
In short, Meeka isn't just searching for a house; she's in search of a home filled with love, joy, calmness and companionship from both humans and dogs.
If you think you could offer her just that, Meeka is ready to shower you with love and affection in return.
If you would like to meet Meeka please provide us some details about your lifestyle, including your other dog and other pets (if any), your family members, your daily activity level, Meeka's potential alone time, home access, contingency plans for when you're away, and your ability to cover vet expenses.
