Meet Onri, a very sweet, older dog...
About: Onri is an independent older man who is agreeable and happy. He loves his tummy being rubbed and loves making new friends. He is a friendly boy, and he is also very confident, affectionate & playful.
Orni is best suited with an owner who has owned dogs before & has experience, and due to his agreeable, easy-going nature he is also fine for any household environment. Onri would even be a great choice for people who lead active lives as he’s the perfect adventure buddy.
Ideal Home: Onri is fine to live in a townhouse, house or on a farm/acreage, yard size is of no concern, just as long as the fencing is high & secure.
Access inside the home is a must as Onri loves to be around people.
Family: Onri is open to meet kids of any age, but his overall size should be taken into consideration as he is big boy. And although he cannot guarantee that he won’t jump at all we can confirm that he rarely jumps, preferring to offer a sit instead.
Onri is also fine to love with people who work part-time or full-time hours.
Furry Friends: Onri is best to be the only dog in the home. His dog assessment wasn’t bad, but he showed little to no reaction to the other dog. Although this may sound like a good thing, a dog with no reaction is actually hard to read. Onri is fine to be walked past other dogs and displays sound behaviour but living with another dog is a different story. It is important to note that Onri has not given us a reason to so no to other dogs we just prefer to err on the side of caution with non-reactive dogs.
Onri is also not suitable to live with cats as he appears to have high prey drive.
Training & Development: Onri would also benefit from post-adoption training such as training at home to continue with his basic obedience.
Onri is house trained when it comes to toilet time, this is when we usually hear him bark as he lets us know when he needs to go.
With further training Onri could be the type of dog you could take to a dog friendly café or social event – but his non-reactivity to dogs should be taken into consideration.
Onri knows his name and he also know show to ‘sit’. He is food motivated and loves his treats. Treats are a great training tool to have on hand & Onri takes them very gently from your hand.
We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.
Play: Onri has medium to high energy levels. He would benefit from exercise, walks, or play from 20-60mins a day to keep him happy & healthy.
Onri walks well on a lead, but he may pull you towards points of interest. He is best walked on a martingale.
Onri loves toys, especially soft, plush toys and loves to use his nose – so food puzzles and nose work toys will be great for Onri.
Staff Comments: Orni is a very sweet older dog. He is toilet trained and will alert bark when he needs to go. Onri is very smell driven – his nose is constantly on the ground when he is not out walking.

With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as flawless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories. Most left in the shelter by their owners. The information we receive is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks will surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
So please keep in touch with us after adoption so that we can help you settle your new family member in and address any unexpected behaviours.
