Meet Fudge, she's a funny little girl who is as sweet as her name suggests...
About: Fudge is a young girl who truly has a heart of gold. She hasn't had a lot of 'real world' experience in her previous home and we doubt that she had any socialising or training either. To top it off Fudge is also navigating shelter life. So, it's fair to say that she's got a lot on her plate.
But despite all of these trials, Fudge remains positive with a smile fixed to her perfect little face. Fudge is a sweet and gentle girl who is friendly, happy & fun to be around. She's a little sensitive to new environments/people but she doesn't take long to settle and become her usual affectionate & engaging self.
Fudge is best suited to someone who has owned dogs before and is also best suited to a home that is calm & quiet. Active people can rejoice as despite her gentle disposition Fudge is outgoing, social & curious and would love to be out & about with you so she can meet new friends & explore.
Ideal Home: Fudge is suitable to live in a townhouse, house or on a farm/acreage, with a medium to large yard & high secure fencing.
Spending time indoors with her new family is high on the priority list for Fudge too, so access inside the home is a must for this cuddle bug.
Family: Fudge is open to meet kids of any age but it should be noted that she is still building her confidence. As long as the kids are happy to assist her on her journey, then Fudge will be happy to be their best-friend.
Fudge is also fine to live with people who work full-time hours.
Furry Friends: Fudge is open to meet dogs. During her dog assessment she showed typical puppy-like behaviour. She is just a playful goof ball who wants to make friends, and despite her lack of manners, she doesn't make other dogs feel uncomfortable. But she will need further socialisation to build her confidence.
As we cannot test, we are unsure how Fudge would go living with or meeting cats/pocket pets. This would be up to the discretion of her new owners.
Training & Development: Fudge would benefit from post-adoption training, such as training at home to cover basic commands/obedience & group classes to assist her with confidence building & to add on to the doggie social skills that she already has.
Fudge is still learning her name, but she knows 'sit' & is quickly learning more. With a little training, Fudge could be a dog that you could take to a dog friendly café or social event. Food will be a great training tool for Fudge as she is food motivated, she is also gentle when taking treats from your hand too.
When excited, Fudge will jump up on you to say hello, but she is quickly learning that this behaviour is not appropriate.
We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.
Play: Fudge is quite playful & her energy levels are mid-range. She would benefit from exercise, play time or walks from 20-30mins a day to keep her happy & healthy. Fudge loves to play with soft toys.
Fudge walks ok on a lead, she tends to walk everywhere, so leash training should be incorporated into her usual training regime. The good news is that she doesn't pull on the lead. She is fine to be walked on a flat collar & lead.
Staff Comments: Fudge is the sweetest girl that craves love & affection. It's awesome to see her gain confidence every day and she's such a smart girl!
Post Adoption Life: With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as seamless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories - most are left in the shelter by their owners. The information we have is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks may surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
Medical notes
No known pre-existing conditions.
