Meet Moxie, a very smart & sweet girl looking for her new family...
About: Despite her young age Moxie is not your typical puppy. Sure, she’s friendly and happy, she gets the silly shakes sometimes and forgets her manners which all know puppies tend to do but Moxie is also a very gentle girl. She’s a big sook whose got a sensitive side to her. Loud noises & fast movements can startle her and leave her feeling a little nervous at times.
We have no idea what her previous life was like, but we can kind of guess that it didn’t involve a lot of socialisation and was possible quite sheltered.
But hey, that being said Moxie is very affectionate & super smart and she is learning positive things each & every day. She is suitable for first time owners who are committed to her transformation, and she is best suited to a home that is on the quieter side.
Ideal Home: Moxie is suitable to live in a house or on a farm/acreage, with a large yard & high secure fencing.
People are her favourite & she would love to be able to snuggle with her new family on the couch whenever possible.
Family: Moxie is open to meet kids from 10 years or older, reason for this is because older kids tend to have a better understanding when it comes to the needs of the dogs. Moxie needs a family who will be patient with her.
Moxie is fine to live with people who work part-time hours.
Furry Friends: Moxie is dog social and has made some friends, but it is evident that her lack of confidence does hold her back from being her true self. Her dog assessment showed us that Moxie is really trying her best to be a good girl, but the world is big & she was a little frightened. But her little tail was wagging a million miles an hour and she was very polite to the other dog.
Moxie will need more social interactions & confidence building in her new home so that she can continue to make dog friends.
As we cannot test, we are unsure how Moxie would go living with or meeting cats/pocket pets. This would be up to the discretion of her new owners.
Training & Development: Moxie would benefit from post-adoption training such as training at home to cover basic commands/obedience & group classes to build her confidence & social skills around other dogs.
With additional training Moxie could be the kind of dog that you could take to a dog friendly café or social setting.
Moxie is still learning her name, but she is very smart & knows ‘sit’, ‘shake’, ‘down’ & 'roll over'. Moxie is also treat motivated, but we are working on taking them gently from your hand. Moxie may also jump up to say hello or when she is feeling overwhelmed & is looking for comfort.
We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.
Play: Moxie’s energy levels are mid-level, whilst she is quieter than the average puppy, she is a puppy none the less. So once settled she may come out of her shell & be super playful. Walking, exercise, or playtime from 30-60mins a day would be beneficial for her.
Moxie walks ok on a lead, she could do with some work, but her lack of lead manners stems from her lack of confidence. She is fine to be walked on a martingale.
Presently she is not interested in toys. She prefers personal play with her handlers & lots of cuddles!
Staff Comments: Moxie is a super sweet girl she just needs some confidence. Moxie deserves a happy, quiet home. She is also very smart!

With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as flawless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories. Most left in the shelter by their owners. The information we receive is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks will surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
So please keep in touch with us after adoption so that we can help you settle your new family member in and address any unexpected behaviours.
The adoption fee for dogs covers C3 vaccination, health check, heartworm testing, desexing, micro-chipping, and registration.
