Is it a bear, is it a sheep skin rug, nope it is big floofy Brandiella. She is so funny, still plays like a young puppy and likes to steal anything soft like jumpers and blankets. We enjoy watching her run at full speed and then drop and roll mid run. Graceful is not how I would describe her😊. She is a gentle giant with people. Brandiella is listed as a Tibetan mastiff but could possibly be a newfoundland mix?
Brandiella is good in the home, sleeps through the night and toilet trained. After a couple of days, she learnt her foster families routine and happily waits at the gate for her morning walks and eagerly jumps into the car. You get a lot of looks from other cars as her fat head hangs out of the window. Rest of the day she plonks her big body on the floor (if there’s a passageway, you can guarantee she’s in the middle of it!). She is good with people, can sometimes be a little wary. She is also good with kids but due to her play biting and medical condition (see below), she is probably suited to older kids.
She pulls a little bit on the lead but it's really down to her size and her just moving forward. If she wants to go in a direction you will need to go with her or be strong enough to lead her in another. She is like a mack truck tied to a mini. She doesn’t mind a little bit of a run on lead but doesn’t need a lot. Her recall definitely needs work, she prefers to head off and just sniff everything.
Brandiella is reactive to other dogs while out on the lead and will need a strong experienced owner. It's something that can be worked on with training and could be due to her not being able to see them properly. She currently lives in a foster house with 3 other big dogs which she is great with but reacts to any new dogs coming into her space. She also lives with a cat. There is no aggression, but she is interested which our cat doesn’t appreciate.
Brandiella has Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA) which in time means she is likely to be blind. It is advanced for her age. She is going on vitamins which may or may not help slow the progression and will need a revisit to the Melbourne Eye Vet in October for another checkup which the rescue will cover the appointment. We have also been working on fattening her up, she deals with anxiety by giving up food (which can sometimes be alleviated with grated cheese). After a couple of days in her foster home she is enjoying 3 large meals a day so she is going in the right direction. Her medical history will be shared with her new family.
Brandiella will make an experienced large dog home very happy. She is a beautiful girl and deserves the best.

Medical notes
Brandiella has PRA = progressive retinal atrophy. This is an inherited, degenerative condition affecting the retina, which is the nerve tissue at the
back of the eye. An early sign of PRA is poor night vision. With time the day vision begins to degenerate and affected dogs go blind.
Both Eyes (OU): PRA (Progressive Retinal Atrophy) with early cataract development. Her vision is very limited and will unfortunately continue to
deteriorate. Cataract surgery is not recommended even if the cataracts progress due to the pre-existing advanced state of retinal degeneration.
