About Khai Illingworth
TO APPLY FOR ADOPTION PLEASE SEND IN APPLICATION FORM AVAILABLE BELOW:
https://www.victoriandogrescue.org.au/about-vicdrg/adoption-and-foster-application-forms.html/
Please note: Khai will be rehomed as an only dog.
Khai means royalty, and if you can make it past his adorable face, you
will discover a prince among pups in this little guy. Well-loved since
puppyhood, Khai is a happy, and playful spirit, who adores his people.
He is polite with visitors, offering a friendly greeting and then
heading to his mat. Khai is curious and sociable, loves a good snuggle,
and enjoys stretching his body and mind. He has a solid off switch,
though, and likes long snoozes around the home or a sunny spot by a
window where he can watch the world go by. Khai has been to puppy school
and has all his basic training down. He is house-trained and used to
spending some time on his own during the day, preferring to be indoors
if possible.
Khai enjoys sleeping on the end of his person's bed overnight, but will
submit to sleeping in his own bed if you need him to.
Out and about Khai enjoys making contact with all who wish to say hello
to him, and loves a good game of chase in the park. He strains on the
leash sometimes in an effort to say hello, or lies down before playfully
greeting other dogs. Khai does prefer to be top dog and can sometimes be
territorial of his food and toys, so should be meal-supervised or fed
separately when other pups are about. He also thinks possums do the
devil's work, and is best kept indoors when they are active. His current
people have done some work to desensitise his possum patrol and he has
been responding really well. Kai enjoys being handled and brushed, and
can tolerate but does not love having a bath! Khai is untested with
cats.
Khai will do well in a variety of homes with people large and small (but
big enough to respect his space when he is eating). He loves having his
people around but is happy snoozing while you are out for work or play.
He could be okay in a working household, provided he gets regular
exercise, human time and toys that keep his brain busy. If given the
chance, he would love to go on the occasional bushwalk, beach run or
café visit with his people. Khai will benefit from some further training
to brush up on his leash skills and walking etiquette. He also needs to
keep working on his recall. Given his foundational training, good nature
and love of food, rewards-based training with Khai should be easy and
mutually rewarding. He is an absolutely beautiful boy and deserves a
forever home where he can adore and be adored.
If Khai had you at hello, he would love you to submit an adoption
application.
Please note: our dogs are not available for interstate adoption. We also do not adopt to people under the age of 25 years.

All our dogs are desexed, C5 vaccinated with intranasal, microchipped, wormed, and flea treated. All necessary vetwork such as dentals, surgery, eye treatment are also carried out. We are no longer heartworm testing as we have not had one positive test since we began in 2006. If a dog comes to us on heartworm treatment this is continued.

Adoption details
We are a community fostercare network, not a shelter, and our dogs and cats are cared for in private homes. Note that we are very careful where we rehome our dogs and cats and we have an intensive process. If you want a quick turnaround we are not the group for you. If you seem like a good match for the dog of your choice we will organise a telephone chat, a meet and greet and a property check. We offer free assistance for six weeks for any issues, a lifetime takeback policy with full refund of the adoption fee, and will always be available to offer advice.
We care for our dogs and cats and we want you to as well. We know that genuine applicants have no trouble with this process and understand that if we refuse you a dog or cat, it is because you are not the best match for that pet.
Our commitment to the dogs and cats in our care is total and we treat each one as if we are passing on a family pet. This may not suit you so we point out that there are equally great dogs and cats available in pounds, shelters and with other rescue groups.
If you are still interested, please download an application form from our website:

The application form must be emailed to us:

Please note that we do not take/make telephone calls prior to receiving an application.
Commonly asked questions and their answers are provided when you email us. Unfortunately we usually will not have time to reply to enquiries in more detail and will give priority to completed applications over enquiries. Priority will also be given to typed applications which are easier for us to read and to copy relevant parts.
We look forward to receiving your application.
