About Catrick Swayze
Big boy on campus...
Meet Catrick Swayze,
Catrick Swayze... where do we even start with this handsome big boy? Despite his size he is such a gentle, kind soul with a heart of gold. Catrick is super friendly with a lovely little curious streak, and he is ultra social too. Catrick is as sweet as pie, very engaging & affectionate to the ACF staff, although he is also a little bit lazy. He is, in our eyes, the most loving cat.
Catrick is quickly becoming a staff favourite, he is a perfect cat for first time owners; his easy breezy attitude making him a delight to be around. However, he is a little sensitive and would be better suited to a home that is on the quieter side as loud noises can stress him out.
Catrick Swayze is open to meet kids of any age, and although he will tolerate being picked up & carried, he prefers all four paws on the ground so he can walk around & follow you. Catrick loves butt scratches, cheek scratches & belly rubs.
Catrick is always down for a bit of a chat and will always be down to discuss important things that has transpired throughout the day. He's also a perfect gentleman as he will also allow you to discuss your day too, he's always happy to listen & look at you with heart shaped eyes.
Catrick Swayze doesn't seem to mind the other cats in the cattery, but we have a sneaking suspicion that he may prefer to be the only cat in your home & heart.
In this environment though it is hard for us to test how Catrick would go living with a dog, however based on how reacted when he heard a dog bark was a clear indicator that he would not be comfortable living with or being around dogs.
We recommend that Catrick Swayze be an inside cat. We know this may come as a surprise considering he is sporting some street cred with an ear tip (an indicator of a past life), but this sweet, cuddly boy is anything but an outside cat. We allowed him to venture into the cat park & he promptly cried to be let back into the cattery, he was visibly stressed and once inside he trotted to the comfort of his condo where he curled up on his bed. Whatever his past life was, it doesn't represent the cuddly, big baby that we currently know today.
Catrick has low energy levels – he rarely plays with toys, preferring to snooze, or curl up and make biscuits, or strut around the place like he has purpose whilst really not doing much at all (except maybe follow you for attention).. He is not very interested in toys; all he wants is a comfy bed.
When it comes to food, Catrick may be a little fussy with wet food, but he will happily graze on dry food throughout the day. And he is not fussy when it comes to treats.
Catrick Swayze is a true gentleman, he always uses his litter tray & is also very clean.
Staff Comments: Catrick Swayze is sweet, gentle & affectionate. He's happy to lounge around all day & be pampered.
Post Adoption Life: With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as seamless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories - most are left in the shelter by their owners. The information we have is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks may surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
Medical notes
Recovered Cat Flu: Historically cat flu has had a negative reputation and can often deter people from adopting; but you wouldn’t actually be able to tell a recovered cat flu cat from a non-cat flu cat. The truth is that many cat flu cats will live happy, healthy, long lives in their new home. So, what is it? Cat flu is caused by a virus. Humans can’t catch it, but other cats can; but only if the cat is showing flu symptoms. Stressful situations like desexing, or a dramatic change in environment can lead to a recovered cat experiencing cat flu again, but this is usually short lived and rarely requires medical intervention. Most cats will recover on their own providing their vaccines are up to date.
