About Minnie
Not for interstate adoption apart from the ACT
Must go to a home with another small/medium well adjusted, friendly and playful dog
Minnie came to us from a breeding facility where she did not get much socialisation with people and no socialisation in the world outside the kennel environment. Due to Minnie's rough start in life she can be timid to start with meeting new people and in new environments, however given just a bit of time she has shown that she is able to adapt and her loving and affectionate side starts to come through slowly.
Once settled, Minnie is the kind of loyal friend who becomes one with her human family. From the moment she became part of her foster carer's family, Minnie showcased her incredible capacity for love and kinship despite her rough start in life as they gave her the time and space initially to feel safe and comfortable.
When comfortable, Minnie enjoys the companionship of both people and pets alike. She loves being around others and is happiest with another dog to follow and cuddle up with, so her new family must have an existing, friendly, playful, well-adjusted dog in the home.
Millie is currently in care with a gentle, well-adjusted Border Collie who has been showing her the ropes on how to live in a home environment so would be ok with a small to medium sized dog. She hasn't shown anxiety when her foster carers leave her alone for shorter periods of time with their dog as company who does not have any separation anxiety and is a well-adjusted dog.
She finds comfort in her furry friend, her carer's Border Collie, and becomes more confident when he's around meeting you people and other dogs.
Her calm demeanor around cats suggests she would be a fine addition to a home with feline residents provided the felines in the home were dog friendly.
Minnie enjoys participating in exciting outdoor activities. Her particular favorites are walks, visits to golf courses, beaches, parks, and even watching soccer and rugby games. Being quite cautious in crowded areas, she appreciates a cuddle to boost her confidence. It is very important to make sure she is not overwhelmed in these situations, paying careful attention to her body language so as to ensure that she continues to have positive interactions in the world outside of the home.
Minnie is exceptionally curious about new sounds and smells and can't resist chasing after birds, so perhaps is not suited to a home with birds.
She can get a little bit overwhelmed with other dogs outside of the home when other dogs get really excited to play with her but otherwise, she is curious to meet new dogs and people when we are walking.
Minnie is great company on car trips, too. She does show some signs of some anxiety in the car however this is improving with each trip in the car, so it is important for her new owner to continue these shorter trips to start with to fun places so that Minnie will become more comfortable in the car with time.
Playtime with Minnie has been a joy. She's learning how to engage with toys and other dogs, showing great progress. At night, she loves snuggling in bed with the family and is perfectly content on the lounge while the family watches television. Therefore, a household where she has full access indoors would suit her best.
Minnie must be permitted on the couch for cuddle time and to sleep in the bedroom.
Minnie has not been introduced to young children yet, but given her nature, we believe she would be suited to older children over the age of 8 years provided they were kind and gentle with animals and understand and respect her initial need for personal space, she should form loving bonds with them too
In short, Minnie isn't just searching for a house; she's in search of a home filled with love, joy, companionship from both humans and dogs and that will respect her initial need for personal space, giving her the time she needs to settle in.
If you think you could offer her just that, Minnie is ready to shower you with affection in return.
