About Buck
introducing Buck, the sweet 6 year old Tricolour – Border Collie.
Buck is now seeking his forever home. This happy gorgeous boy is a short haired Border Collie ( currently weighing 23 kilos
Buck adores other dogs and will play all day if he can
He is kind and gentle with children and has basic training under his belt .
Buck’s favorite things to do are to go for walks with his foster family, including his 2 year old foster sister doggo , enjoying all the smells and sights, along with spending time being close to his foster family and playing with his foster sister in the backyard.. They fight for ages until one of them has had enough and they will retire for a well-earned nap, until the next one instigates.
Buck loves interacting with other dogs, he is eager to say hello when meeting other dogs out on a walk, with lots of sniffing and checking them out, if given a accepting response he will initiate a bit of play, but if the other dog gives any indications they aren’t happy he is great at reading these cues and will back off and keep moving, even if the other dog gives a growl he does not seem to retaliate. Buck has not been tested with cats
Buck enjoys human interactions with his foster family; he can initially be timid especially if there is something in your hand (possibly some previous trauma), once he realizes all is safe he settles and will eagerly wait a pat. He loves being around children. He is not too jumpy at all, a little excited and playful. He is currently being fostered in a home with children as young as 6 years old and loves the energy that they bring.
Buck has outstanding recall, basic skills of sitting and dropping. He has had a lot of off lead opportunities in fenced properties and will happily run around and come back when called. Sitting for meals and waiting for meals are what we are currently working on. Buck can be a little snatchy taking treats and needs reminding that this isn’t the last snack he will receive!
Buck is great on the lead also, not particularly pulley, unless he wants to say hello to a friend he sees.
We suspect Buck hasn’t spent a lot of time indoors before coming into foster care. He was desexed a short while after arriving and has improved on his marking territory inside dramatically. When sleeping in the laundry overnight, he is able to hold on and not have any accidents.
Buck sleeps well in either the laundry all night or outside on a warm bed with a blanket all night. No barking or whimpering. He tends to get tucked into bed with lights out around 10pm and will happily sleep in until 6-7am when her foster family are up for the day and keen for his early morning walk.
Buck is a very independent boy, he will spend most of her days outside exploring the backyard, playing with his foster sister, napping and watching the people walk past while her foster family is working and at school. He isn’t a barker. He gets very excited to see his foster family arrive home and will eagerly wait at the backdoor for a pat and cuddle.
Buck being a working breed does require daily stimulation and or exercise
Buck enjoys his daily walks with his foster mum and often a second walk mid-afternoon with his foster dad along with his foster Border Collie sister of course! They love going to the off lead dog area where they can run and play and sniff around, stretching his legs. Being a working dog, he does need regular exercise.
Buck travels quite well in the car, he has had short trips along with longer trips up to 2 hrs and travels like a dream. He happily jumps up into the back and lays on his bed.
Inside the home:
As mentioned earlier, we don’t believe that Buck had much time inside before coming into foster care. He can forget his manners jumping on furniture and does take a while to settle. He will after some time settle on his bed for short stints. We have been working on this with him. He is predominantly an outside dog with shorter stints inside the home of an evening.

Ideal home
An active family with a love of working breeds to keep this boy simulated and happy
A medium- large secure yard, a property would be his dream life
We have not tested hm with cats
We think that Buck would be most suited to a home with another dog, female or male that likes to have rough and tumble but who is well mannered and dog socialized . A home with a lot of space to run around would be ideal, and kind mature children would be wonderful for him
