Meet Kingsley, small dog with big personality…!
About: Kingsley is a vibrant boy who loves all & any attention. In fact he would prefer to have all the attention on him at all times. Kingsley is friendly, happy & outgoing. He is a confident boy who not only smart but curious.
Kingsley is playful, excitable, affectionate and very engaging with his handlers.
He is best suited to someone who has dog owner experience, or breed experience and he is suitable for any household environment as he is fairly easy-going. Active people can rejoice as Kingsley will happily accompany you on walks, hikes, camping or beach trips.
Ideal Home: Kingsley is fine to live in any property type or dwelling, yard size is of no concern either, just as long as the fencing is high & secure.
Access to inside the home to top of Kingsley priority list as he loves being around people so he can soak up all the time & adoration.
Family: Kingsley is open to meet kids from 16 years & up. Reason for this is due to his resource guarding. Kingsley loves his food very much and prefers to be undisturbed when eating. It is best to feed him & allow him to eat alone. Older kids will understand his need to eat alone.
Kingsley is also fine to live with people who work full-time hours.
Furry Friends: Kingsley is best to be the only dog in the home. During his dog assessment he shows no reaction what so ever when meeting another dog. Although this may sound like a good thing, a dog with no reaction is actually hard to read. Kingsley is a people-dog right to his very core. His lack of reaction to dogs to the same as he shows to his food bowl, it's only when you closer that he knows his true behaviour. We prefer to err on the side of caution with non reactive dogs.
As we cannot test, we are unsure how Kingsley would go living with or meeting cats/pocket pets. This would be up to the discretion of his new owners.
Training & Development: Kingsley would benefit from post-adoption training, such as training at home to continue his basic commands & obedience. His previous owner states that he is toilet trained and it is evident that he is smart & has had other training as well.
Kingsley does bark for attention & can be quite persistent as well, with training he should be able to understand that his behaviour is not favourable but he will need a committed owner. With further training Kingsley could be the kind of dog you can take to a dog friendly café or social setting but you will need to be mindful of other dogs & have his barking under control as he does not disturb other people.
Kingsley knows his name, he also knows 'sit', 'stay', 'come', 'drop', 'shake' and 'spin'. He loves his treats too and can take them gently (sometimes).
We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.
Play: Kingsley's energy levels are medium and he would benefit from play, exercise or walking from 20-30mins per day. Kingsley walks well on a lead and he is best walked on any apparatus.
Kingsley loves soft toys and doesn't like tennis balls.
Staff Comments: Kingsley is very sweet and he can build confidence quickly. He loves showing off his commands & tricks. He is toilet trained & is definitely a dog that has had prior training. However he does resource guards food & his new owners should be aware of this.
Post Adoption Life: With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as seamless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories - most are left in the shelter by their owners. The information we have is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks may surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
