About Lieutenant Cheeseburger
Are you looking for a dog in the shape of a cat?
Meet Ginger!
This playful, excited boy has the energy and curiosity of a pup. He just can't wait for his next adventure! He wants to discover a loving home. He's super excited about it!
Secretly, however, Ginger can get scared sometimes. He covers it up well! He often pretends to be braver than he is. He's playful and outgoing, until sometimes it all gets a bit much, and he needs someone to turn to.
Things that make surprisingly loud noises or unpredictable movements (like young children) can spook him. He can grab or try to mouth (like a puppy play bite) objects that worry him, like a broom, or a hand that grabs him unexpectedly. When everything gets a bit much for him, Ginger just needs some calm time, and a gentle voice to reassure him.
Because Ginger is not quite as brave as he pretends to be, he's best suited to a home with adults or teens.
This cutie will thrive with a solid routine. You might just find him waiting patiently by the door for you to get home from work!
Because Ginger is clever, curious and motivated, he's a great candidate for training. You can teach highly engaged cats to sit, come, beg, or even high-five, just like a dog.
Performing these tricks can be great for Ginger's mental health! It gives him predictable interactions that can restore his sense of balance when he's feeling overwhelmed. He gets to feel in control again (according to him, if he sits, he can make you give him a treat!). It can also help keep his mind engaged.
Playful Ginger will do really well with lots of enrichment -- new things to explore or play with. This doesn't have to be expensive! He'll be delighted to discover some treats in a rolled-up towel, or to scoop some of his dinner out of a plastic cup. New toys can include toilet rolls, scrunched up paper, a pen with string tied to it, or a gumnut you found.
Are you Ginger's new best mate? He is an excitable and loving boy, looking for someone to turn to when he's spooked, and a friend to share playtime with. He's so excited to meet you!
