About Ruby
PLEASE NOTE WE DO NOT FLY OUR ANIMALS WITHIN WA OR INTERSTATE
NAME: Ruby
BEFORE RESCUE: Came to SAFE Esperance from the pound
BREED: Jack Russell X - she weighs 10.4kg
BREED TRAITS: Jack Russells are lively, independent and clever. They are trainable but have a mind of their own and if bored can dig and chew. Terriers are devoted to their people, affectionate and love being with them so cannot be left for long periods. Jack Russells can think they are bigger than they are and be reactive to other dogs unless well socialised. Careful and sensitive socialisation from a young age is a must.

ASSETS: Affectionate, devoted, eager to please, obedient and playful pretty much sums up Ruby’s personality, she’s a very sweet girl but is shy and unsure around new people/places initially. She had a difficult start in life with little exposure and socialisation so she has come on in leaps and bounds while in care.
FAVOURITE THINGS: Ruby was terrified when she came into foster care, so everything has been a learning experience for her. She isn’t really into toys but loves walks on the foreshore, going to the dog park and enjoys her off lead time at the beach. Her foster carer takes her to Bunnings, she was scared at first, but now enjoys the trips. She loves to be around her person where she feels safe and as long as she’s close to them getting plenty of attention and affection she’s a happy girl.
ENDEARING FEATURES: Ruby is very loving and gentle. She’s completely devoted to her person and loves to follow them around.
OTHER ANIMALS: Ruby gets on well with other friendly, similar sized dogs but still needs some work on socialisation due to feeling unsure and timid. She gets on well with the cats in her foster home so could live with a dog-savvy cat after gentle introduction.
GENERAL INFO: Ruby walks quietly on the lead but could do with a little more training as it’s still fairly new to her. She’s house trained as long as she has regular access to the garden. She travels well in the car, rarely barks and isn’t a fan of being left alone for long periods of time. She knows a few commands but would benefit from some ongoing training with this. She responds well to positive instruction so training should be a breeze for her and will continue to grow her confidence.
ESSENTIALS for Ruby:
** A quiet, loving home where someone is there more often than not or can take her with them when out. She will not be suitable for full time workers but could settle with someone who works from home or is retired.
** She could live with another friendly similar sized dog or at the least will need to have regular interaction and playdates with other friendly, dogs to work on her socialisation.
** Ruby needs a fenced, secure yard with grass and interesting things for her to sniff and explore.
** As Ruby has missed out on puppy school and positive early input we would like her new owner to take her to classes where she can learn to mingle with other dogs and people and have the training that will build her confidence in the outside world.
** Ruby loves to be with her people so needs to be allowed inside the home and to sleep inside at night, with doggy door access to the garden if possible.
Ruby has not been tested with children but we may consider a home with dog-experienced, gentle children over 12 years of age who will recognize her shyness/caution and give her space when she needs it. We are cognisant of the fact that Ruby needs to accept and learn in her own time without being forced or stressed. She is being fostered in an adult only home and this suits her very well.
If Ruby sounds like the perfect fit for your family, and you wish to give a loving home to a dog that very much deserves the chance to shine, please send an enquiry and we’ll be in touch soon.
