About Dave Gainsborough

Please note: Dave would love a calm furry mentor, not too large, to help him be the best boy.
Dave will be your best mate who just wants to chill out with you from time to time. He is a beautiful Maltese Terrier/Lhasa Apso who is completely content with just relaxing and hanging out with his humans.
Dave knows a few important commands such as “sit” and “up” (to get on the couch), as well as his own name and this smart boy is house trained. He also loves his soft toys and playing with balls. “Where’s the ball?” Then he may go to find it.
Dave doesn’t need much activity, requiring only a short walk per day but like all dogs needs some outings as stimulation and exercise. He tends to pull on the leash, so sometimes a Halti is used while out walking. Currently Dave is reactive when he sees other dogs, but we are working with him on this. In the meantime, he is not really suited to dog parks or to chill at a cafe where there are other dogs.
Dave would be the perfect dog for someone who is home most of the time as he loves your company and just sleeping on the floor in his bed if you are on the laptop.
At night he doesn’t try to get in your bed as he is very content in his own. Sleeps through the night.
Suitable for an adult household as he doesn’t like a huge amount of activity and noise.
When at home he settles quickly after getting excited about something, like chasing a ball, and tends to just relax whenever in your presence.
Dave enjoys being groomed. Due to his breeding (Maltese Terrier/Lhasa Apso), he appears to shed very little hair, so may be fairly hypo-[allergenic. Barely any mess from his coat as far as having any hair in the house. But he needs a regular brushing and must be clipped now and then as he has a luxurious coat.
Can easily be lifted up into the car. Wants to get in the car. Can whine a little sometimes while travelling, but hasn’t exhibited motion sickness. Likes to see out the window.
Dave could be rehomed with a calm quiet dog as he wants to have dog friends, but presently can get overwhelmed while out walking, when he sees another dog.
Dave was in a house with other dogs for a while, so potentially will enjoy a calm, well socialised canine housemate. Otherwise, he could be happy as a singleton, with
human companionship.

All our dogs are desexed, C5 vaccinated with intranasal, microchipped, wormed, and flea treated. All necessary vetwork such as dentals, surgery, eye treatment are also carried out. We are no longer heartworm testing as we have not had one positive test since we began in 2006. If a dog comes to us on heartworm treatment this is continued.

Adoption details
We are a community fostercare network, not a shelter, and our dogs and cats are cared for in private homes. Note that we are very careful where we rehome our dogs and cats and we have an intensive process. If you want a quick turnaround we are not the group for you. If you seem like a good match for the dog of your choice we will organise a telephone chat, a meet and greet and a property check. We offer free assistance for six weeks for any issues, a lifetime takeback policy with full refund of the adoption fee, and will always be available to offer advice.
We care for our dogs and cats and we want you to as well. We know that genuine applicants have no trouble with this process and understand that if we refuse you a dog or cat, it is because you are not the best match for that pet.
Our commitment to the dogs and cats in our care is total and we treat each one as if we are passing on a family pet. This may not suit you so we point out that there are equally great dogs and cats available in pounds, shelters and with other rescue groups.

We look forward to receiving your application.
