Meet Meeka, a social girl that will make you laugh with her puppy-like antics...
About: Meeka can be a little shy at times, especially around meeting new people. She is a gentle soul who is agreeable, friendly, and happy. She is also quite smart and curious but lacks a bit of confidence however she is quickly finding herself again and is making a lot of dog friends along the way. Meeka is very engaging with her handlers & quite affectionate to them too.
Meeka is best suited to someone who has owned dogs before & has some experience. She is also suitable for any household environment and would make a friend companion for those who lead an active lifestyle. She would love to come with you on any adventure.
Ideal Home: Meeka is suitable to live in an apartment, townhouse, or house. Yard size is of no concern either, as long as the fencing is medium to high. Meeka loves people so having access to inside the home as well as outside would be great so she can spend time with her new family.
Family: She is open to meet kids of any age, as long as the kids are aware of her need to continue her journey of self-discovery & building confidence. Meeka is also suitable to live with people who work full-time hours.
Furry Friends: Meeka is open to meet other dogs, and we have a sneaking suspicion that she also previously lived with dogs. During her dog assessment she is happy to engage but shows semi submissive behaviour, she allows the dog to do whatever they want with her, but this may change as her confidence grows. She is very playful & plays like a big puppy with she interacts with other dogs.
As we cannot test, we are unsure how Meeka would go living with or meeting cats/pocket pets. This would be up to the discretion of her new owners.
Training & Development: Meeka would benefit from post-adoption training, such as training at home to cover basic commands & obedience & group classes so that she can keep her social skills in check as well as build her confidence and learn how to co-exist with dogs without so much excitement.
With a little more training & exposure to new environments Meeka could be the type of dog you can take to a dog friendly café or social setting.
Meeka is still learning her name, but she knows ‘sit’ & ‘down’. She loves her treats but can be a little picky sometimes. But she always takes them gently from your hand when offered.’ Meeka may jump. But only if she is excited.
We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.
Play: Meeka’s energy needs are low to medium, but sky-rocket when she is playing with another dog. She would benefit from exercise, play or walking from 20-60mins a day.
Meeka walks perfectly, with minimal pulling and she is best walked with a collar. Meeka also likes to play with soft toys.
Staff Comments: Meeka is a very sweet, gentle dog who is super chilled out. She would make a great family dog. She could benefit from exposure training as she can be a little timid. She would suit most owners/families.
Post-Adoption Life: With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as seamless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories - most are left in the shelter by their owners. The information we have is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks may surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
