About Benison
It’s time to open the floodgates for our gorgeous, goofy and lovable boy Benison!
This slobbery giant found himself in a rural pound and his owners didn’t come to collect him so we were lucky enough to make him part of the fetching dogs family. We know Benison is going to be one popular boy so please read his profile carefully and if you are interested in adopting him, please include plenty of extra detail in your application about the type of life you could offer him as we will only have time to contact a few families for an interview.
Benison could turn even the coldest of hearts warm. His happiness and silliness is infectious and everywhere he goes he turns heads due to his incredible stature, good looks and wonderful nature. He is friendly with everyone he meets and is incredibly affectionate with his family - you will have to accommodate the fact that he thinks he is a lap dog and enjoys nothing more than snuggling up on his foster carer’s lap for some tv time in the evenings. He is still a silly young dog and sometimes forgets his size and loves to do a sneak kamikaze on his foster carers so an adult only home is what we are looking for, but he is great with kids and will enjoy getting lots of pats outside of his home from any willing children.
This boy is also very good with other dogs! He is currently living with another large breed dog who is an older lady and he is very respectful of her, but is always up for a game when she is. He is pretty neutral in most settings, only occasionally getting a bit excited when he sees an interesting dog, but has shown to be very dog social with dogs big and small. He would love a home with another well trained adult dog. But whether his new home has another dog or not, we would love him to find a home with people home more often than not.
At home, Benison is pretty much the perfect house mate. He is not a barker, sleeps through the night and is non-destructive. However, his big size and clumsy nature mean you have to be careful of precious goods!
Being a St Bernard, any interested homes must ensure they are not only up for a huge amount of love, but also a lot of hair and slobber around the place - this is not for everyone, but in return he offers himself up as a portable water bottle that doesn’t require electricity to keep you warm this winter!! He is almost completely toilet trained but has had a couple of accidents inside since being in care, so new owners will just need to continue reinforcing outdoor habits.
Benison would suit most home types, but will absolutely have to have outdoor access to relax in the sun or have a play, so we will only be looking for homes with a decent size yard. He doesn’t enjoy the heat and will require a home that can provide him with cool places to relax both in summer and winter!
He is a gentle giant and although he doesn’t have a large trick repertoire, his natural demeanour makes him an easy dog to have around. He walks pretty well on leash and travels perfectly in the car. He does take up a lot of car space so anyone applying will need to have a suitably large vehicle to take him on many outings. While he has relatively low exercise needs he is still a young boy who LOVES his outings to romp around and is looking for a home with people who have the capacity to take him out daily and be able to provide him with plenty of opportunities to go on lots of fun adventures to the beach or bush for some fun.
Benison will require a home preferably with people who have previous St Bernard or equivalent breed experience as while they are gorgeous dogs they have quite high maintenance as they are giant dogs with larger expenses for things such as feeding a good quality diet, providing preventative joint supplements and grooming needs. This boy has a lot of hair and needs daily brushing.
If you would like to make this boy a permanent member of your family, then please fill out an adoption enquiry form with plenty of detail about your lifestyle and previous dog experience.

Don't see a breed attached to one of our dogs? That's because we don't breed label dogs of unknown genetic history. We can't guess at breeds but that's okay, because we can tell you about the dog's individual personality, character, and behaviour.
