About Mouse
Mouse is looking for his forever home. He is a very gentle, 9yo male kelpie, who loves running in the paddock, sniffing through the undergrowth and curling up inside with his people at night.
Mouse LOVES food and will devour anything he is offered. It has benefited him to have a slow feed bowl at mealtimes and he is currently learning to take treats with genteel decorum, rather than mouthing your hand until he finds the food!
Mouse will walk on lead, and responds well when taken out with another dog. When off lead, Mouse loves to explore and his foster carer has seen a huge improvement in his recall over the past couple of weeks.
When Mouse feels safe with you, he will approach and give you steady eye contact, inviting gentle scratches around his head. He prefers this gentle affection to back pats or butt scratches, and will invite more of this by staying close to your hand or gently pawing the space beside you.
Upon meeting Mouse for the first time, he can present as timid. He needs someone who is understanding and will give him the time and guidance to adapt to his new environment and family situation.
Mouse needs a home where someone is home more often than not, and where at least one other calm, mature dog is present. An adult home is preferred as little people may be too busy, quick and noisy.
Mouse has shown no interest in chooks, and within his first week in care has built a rapport with the other senior dogs. He has learned very quickly how to use the doggy door to access his preferred space inside or outside and doesn't hesitate when it comes to jumping in the car.
So far, Mouse has shown himself to be a careful observer of everything around him and a quiet dog who likes to be included in the family's activities. His confidence has grown considerably and he initiates more contact throughout the day, as well as showing his happy smile and strut when out and about.
If you think you could provide Mouse with the home he deserves, we want to hear from you!
Please Note: Mouse has cataracts in both eyes and one hind leg with far less muscle tone than the other.
