About Sandy
Looking for a true sweetheart that is gentle and loving?
Meet Sandy, our scruffy Kelpie x Staghound (we think!) that is sure to become your new best friend! At 3 years old, Sandy is a gentle soul with a cheeky personality that loves to be around humans and dogs alike. Sheâs an absolute dream girl and wins everyone over as soon as they meet her! Sandy, with her supermodel legs is actually not a heavy girl any only weighs around 19 kilos so shes a petite leggy girl with a heart of gold
Sandy has had a full dental completed so her teeth are squeaky clean
Sandyâs favourite things include cuddling up on the sofa, throwing her toy around the living room and chewing on a juicy bone. At home, sheâll happily lounge around all day while we work and, in the evening, cuddle up to watch TV (seriously) and get excited whenever an animal appears. The horses in Bridgerton are a personal favourite of hers! She also loves to go for a nice walk, especially if she gets the chance to meet some other dog
Sandy is great at meeting new people and has loved all the attention she receives from visitors. Since in foster care, Sandy has proved to be a very well mannered girl who, although gets very excited when we come home from work, is quick to settle back down once sheâs said hello. Sandy came from a family with children and so we canât foresee any issues moving into a family home as long as they can handle a little excited bouncy -ness
Sandy is a quick learner and is working all the time on her discipline while out on walks. Sandy is working on ignoring moving objects with wheels so we suggest walks in open areas without the temptation of bikes ect. She is currently being walked on a slip lead which we find helpful to control those odd episodes. She will generally walk by your side when prompted. Her favourite treat when on walks is small pieces of cheese yum yum
Sandy is fully house trained has not had any accidents while in care
Similarly, she is not destructive l, hasnât chewed or eaten anything that she shouldnât wasnât so is a perfect house guest!
Sandy is great when meeting new dogs and loves to say hello to as many as possible. She does occasionally get a bit overwhelmed if there is more than one other dog or if a dog has poor manners Introductions are always done on lead ensuring that she is introduced slowly Sandy has had one off lead play date with a large male dog and displayed great play skills so we feel she could like with a polite socialised male. Sandy will be fine living with another dog however separate feeding may be required as she can occasionally guard high value food (bones and pigs ears). Sandy has not been tested with cats or other small animals
Sandy came into foster care very skinny and underweight needing to put in 5kg. We have had her on puppy food to help with her calorie intake. She is now almost the perfect weight so we suggest another few weeks of puppy food then to transition back on to a high quality adult kibble. Sandy is good around food and doesnât beg or steal while we are eating. Her favourite treats are Pigs ears, bones and especially cheese. As mentioned previously, she may guard these high value treats however is more than happy to give up her regular food bowl.
Sandy is fairly independent and is left home for 2 days a week. Initially she was a little nervous to be left alone with a little barking, however this subsided quickly within her first week. Now, she is quite happy to sleep the day away in the garage and listen to the radio while we are away from home
Sandy is a great sleeper and will happily stay in her bed all night. Toilet training is a non issue and she has not had any accidents since arriving with us.
Sandy has a scruffy coarse coat that requires a weekly brush. She also is absolutely not a fan of the bath, or any water for that matter, and so bathing her can be a little challenging lol
Sandy is currently going for around a 30 minute walk each day which keeps her happy. She also loves to run around in the garden and will play in short bursts. She is not a particularly active dog while at home but does love a nice walk and a trip to someplace new.
Home in a perfect world:
Sandy is a very easy going dog and will be happy in just about any situation. Ideally her new home should have a decent grassed area and have a family that is willing to continue her training while on walks. We suspect that Sandy would be happy living with another dog however this would be a new experience for her.
