About Dakoto
A soft & gentle lady...
Meet Dakoto,
A sweet & gentle little girl. She is shy, but friendly and is trying her best to be social in an environment that is all new to her. Being surrendered is never easy, you don’t know what’s happened & you leave behind the safety of a home you know, & people you love. But little Dakoto will still come out to meet you as confidently as she can but it’s a constant battle between her wanting to get to know you and her timidity trying to take over.
Despite this she is still suitable to live with first time cat owners. Dakoto is best to live in a calm & quiet home and she is open to meet kids of any age, providing they are understanding of her need of peacefulness & time to settle into another new environment. Once settled you’ll see that she loves to be patted & cuddled and she loves any and all attention that you can give her. Dakoto especially loves her cheeks being scratched and a good brush! When it comes to being picked up, Dakoto is ok with it, but she can squirm around a little, so being picked up should be quick & short.
She has previously lived with cats, in fact she lived with Neo (ID: 11307) and she seems to like seeing other cats, she will purr with delight at their very sight, she also seems to be very curious about the kittens in the cattery too. As always we recommend a slow introduction to existing cats in the home.
Dakoto is not a fan of dogs though, so she can’t be rehomed into a home with dogs.
Due to her timidity & quiet demeanour it should come as no surprise that she should be an inside only cat, she did not even like going into the cat park, she was visibly distressed by the sights, sounds & smells. Going outside will most likely result in her fleeing from the home and risking getting lost, injured or worse. Inside will be plenty for her and best of all, she will be safe!
Dakoto’s energy needs are low, she is not interested in toys at all (for now), but she loves any human interaction and food! She also loves any treats you have on offer too. It’s around food time that you may even get to hear her start to chat to you as her excitement of being fed ramps up. Dakoto is also a tidy girl, as she always uses her litter tray.
Staff Comments: Dakota needs a patient owner so they can let her settle. It took some time when she first came in. Dakota absolutely loves being brushed.
Post-Adoption Life: With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as flawless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories. Most left in the shelter by their owners. The information we receive is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks will surface during this time. All that we ask if that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
