Meet Pepper, the playful spice to zest up your life…
About: Pepper is a lovely, lively girl who is friendly and happy. She is smart, outgoing, and quite a confident young lady. A social girl, who’s a tad bit stubborn. She is a little on edge in her kennel, but her true self lies beyond the confines of those four walls. She feels most comfortable outside, surrounded by people where she can shower them with affection. Pepper is also an adaptive learner and loves to learn new tricks and commands.
Pepper is best suited to someone who has owned dogs before; someone that has experience with doggo ownership. She is also best suited to an active household, a house that is on the go and happy to take her along for the ride. If you are a person or family who spends time outdoors or away, Pepper would be the perfect travel buddy.
Ideal Home: Pepper is best to live in a standalone home, or on a farm/acreage, with a medium to large yard & high secure fencing. She would love having the freedom to be inside as well as outside so she can get the best of both worlds & spend time with her new family.
Family: Pepper is open to meet kids of any age, but her active nature needs to be taken into consideration if you have smaller kids as she may accidentally knock them over. Pepper is also fine to live with people/families that work part-time or full-time hours.
Furry Friends: Pepper is open to meet dogs, during her dog assessment she was initially unsure but as the assessment went on, she relaxed & allowed the other dog to introduce themselves to her, and in turn she introduced herself too. From there a few play bows were offered before they walked side by side as if they had known each other their whole lives.
We do not think Pepper would be suitable to live with cats/pocket pets as she displays high prey drive tendencies, but as we cannot test in this environment, we are unsure how accurate our observations are. This would be up to the discretion of her new owners.
Training & Development: Pepper would benefit from post-adoption training such as training at home to cover her basic commends & obedience, and group classes for the social aspect.
Although she is still learning her name, she knows how to ‘sit’ & ‘down’. With a little extra training Pepper could be the type of dog you could take to a dog friendly café or social setting. Treats will be a great training tool to have, as she is food motivated & loves her treats.
We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.
Play: Peppers energy needs are high, and she would benefit from exercise, walks, or play time from 20-60mins a day. Pepper walks well on a lead but appears to be a little stressed around high arousal areas (such as the kennel blocks). She is best walked on a martingale.
Pepper is yet to show us her favourite toy, the reason for this is that she dislikes her kennel and is finding it hard to self soothe, so we are prioritising her walking times as she loves being out and about, where she can be with her handler & take in the sights, sounds & smells of the world.
Post-Adoption Life: With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as seamless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories - most are left in the shelter by their owners. The information we have is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks may surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
