About Ben
Please don't let poor Ben pass away in the shelter. 💔
At some point in his 11 years of life, Ben was a well-loved pet who had an owner who cared enough to fly him to Australia with them when they moved here from overseas. It's hard to comprehend that things changed so drastically for him that he now finds himself so unwanted after 381 days waiting for someone to give him a home.
Over the course of the year that he has spent with us, Ben has had more than his fair share of minor health issues. He's been back and forth to the vets countless times for lump removals, arthritis pain relief, and skin issues. He is now on prednisolone tablets for his skin issues, which he will likely need at a low dose ongoing to keep them at bay, as well as paracetamol for his arthritis. Just when we thought we had his health issues under control, it was discovered that poor Ben now has a grade 3 or 4 heart murmur that has progressed significantly over the last 8 months.
Because of this, we are unsure of how much time Ben will have left, and are desperately hoping that some special person will simply be happy to give an old dog a happy, loved and spoilt end to their life, however long that may be.
To put it plainly, along with his health issues, we know that Ben isn't everyone's cup of tea. He's still got a lot of go in him despite his age, and he often sounds like a steam train when he gets excited or is walking around the shelter. We wouldn't call him a people-focused or cuddly dog - though he very much enjoys a good bum scratch, he's generally much more interested in tearing apart a toy than sitting quietly with a person.
He has been known to resource guard his toys, though he does give plenty of warning to let you know that he won't tolerate you trying to take his toy away from him.
He's also not all that social with other dogs.
Despite his flaws, many of our staff have a soft spot for Ben and are holding onto the hope that there is a staffy lover out there who would be willing to give this poor old man the loving home he deserves for however long he has left.
If you think that person could be you, please give us a call on 9722 1265 to make an appointment!
