About Candy 🍬5yo Jack Russell x Pom (On Trial 22/5/24)
Candy is a loving, 5yo, Jack Russell Terrier x Pomeranian. She is dreaming of a home where she can sit on someone’s lap and go for a little walk each day. She adores people and gets along well with other dogs. 🍭
Candy doesn’t have the high energy of a Jack Russell. She has a calm and settled temperament like her Pomeranian parent. That being said, she does want to play a couple of times a day and will ask you to throw a little toy or play tug with her for a minute.
She is nice with other dogs and will share the couch and bed with them. She’ll also let them steal her food so I have to keep an eye on the other dogs to prevent that.
Candy is very much an inside girl and needs to be welcome inside, on your furniture, and to sleep inside. She is housetrained. She hasn’t had any training so she’s not suitable to be let off the lead but you can use an extra-long lead to let her explore and sniff around in open spaces.
She is a very affectionate little girl who likes to follow you around and sit near you. She doesn’t care about spending much time outside and she’s not a nuisance barker so she’d be fine in a ground floor apartment or a small villa with a little courtyard for toileting.
She is ok left at home alone inside for a few hours at a time but not all day. So, we're looking for a home where there is someone home most of the time (no full-time workers).
Candy has a low-shedding coat so she needs professional clipping every couple of months. She loves to be brushed. She tends to get itchy skin so a bit of ointment on itchy spots helps her. She needs a weekly bath with a medicated shampoo. This is quick and easy to do at home in your laundry tub, bath tub or kitchen sink.
Don’t tell Candy I told you this, but she needs to lose some weight! She weighs 10kgs but should only weigh 7kgs. She is doing very well in foster care eating Lyka dog food and going for daily walks so is slowly beginning to slim down a little bit. Candy was surrendered to Dog Rescue Newcastle from someone who could no longer afford to look after her. They were feeding her devon and table scraps, which probably explains her weight.
Candy is good with children but she isn't suitable to a busy household with young children. Any kids in her forever home should be at least 12 years old. Candy hasn’t been tested with cats or other pets but I think she’d be ok with them.
Small dogs like Candy typically live to around 16 years old so she should still have more than half of her life to enjoy in her new home.
✅ Candy would like a home where there is someone who:
* wants a calm, affectionate companion who doesn’t need a lot of walking.
* will love her, play with her, and take her for a little walk each day
* let her sit next to them
* is home most of the time
* Where there are no children under 12
* Other dogs are fine.
Candy is in foster care in Charlestown, NSW (Lake Macquarie, south of Newcastle). ⭐She is available for adoption to NSW, ACT, QLD and VIC. We don’t fly dogs interstate, so you would need come to meet her, and drive her home with you.
Candy's adoption fee is $600 and she is desexed, vaccinated, treated for fleas, worms, vet checked, and microchipped.
