Meet Kyza, a big, beautiful boy with an equally big heart..
About: Kyza is a gentle giant. He is independent and agreeable in nature. A friendly boy, with a happy outlook on life. He can be excitable & boisterous at times though, he is playful and affectionate to his handlers.
Kyza is best suited to someone who has shepherd breed experience. He is also suitable for any household or environment, all thanks to his adaptable nature. Kyza would be great for people/families who are active & spend time outdoors and he too loves adventure & taking in new sights, smells & sounds.
Ideal Home: Kyza would be best to living in a townhouse, house or on a farm/acreage, with a medium to large yard & high, secure fencing.
Free access to both inside the home as well as out would be ideal for Kyza so that he can get the best of both worlds.
Family: He is open to meet kids of any age, but his size should be factored in as he is sitting pretty at 43kg.
Kyza is also fine to live with people who work full-time hours.
Furry Friends: Kyza has previously lived with another dog, in fact he lived with Kyrie (ID: 35768). However, he does not appear to enjoy the company of other dogs. We have said that he would be best to be the only dog in the home as he displayed behaviour which indicated that he was not socialised with other dogs, apart from Kyrie, in his previous home, as he & Kyrie are able to co-exist without issue.
As we cannot test, we are unsure how Kyza would go living with cats/pocket pets. This would be up to the discretion of his new owners.
Training & Development: Kyza would also benefit from post-adoption training, such as training at home to cover basic commands/obedience.
Kyza is very smart, so treat/food puzzles would be a great in additional to training. Kyza is food motivated and takes treats gentle form your hand & treats are a good training tool as well – Kyza doesn’t appear to by fussy about the type of treat either.
Kyza is still learning his name but knows ‘sit’, ‘down’ & ‘shake’.
We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.
Play: Kyza’s energy needs are medium, and he would benefit from exercise, walks or play from 30-60mins in length.
Kyza walks well on a lead, although is strong to walk. He is best walked with a martingale or harness.
Kyza doesn’t appear to be interested in toys, he prefers human interaction, personal play, or to work/train, or engage with his handlers for a cheeky cuddle.
Post-Adoption Life: With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as seamless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories - most are left in the shelter by their owners. The information we have is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks may surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
